bottom 5 score 148, top 6 score 143. hang your heads you useless fucks.
Black Caps supporters are well used to a team that requires the bowlers to take the wickets and score the runs
Yep when Vettori and Mccullum needed big partnerships after Jamie How and Peter Fulton had fucked up yet again.

Well done to India. Put the pressure on the top order and OZ were really chasing their tail thereafter. Oz lower order with a bit of fight, but it did look inevitable that they would fall short.
I’ve already seen some chatter about “if they had Smith and Warner” and yes they would’ve made a difference. But according to pre-game commentary India was without fast bowlers...
-
@act-crusader additionally: IF Finch and Marsh hadn't so spectacularly fucked up in the first dig, we MAY have scored more and had a lead BUT the Indian middle order would have been more circumspect, methinks
-
@nta Yeah - Ashwin in particular played an immensely stupid shot - a six or out slog - when he could have just pushed a single at a point where every run was making things exponentially harder for Oz.
Ashwin got outplayed by Lyon, which would have been a root cause of India's loss if they'd lost - main factor in this being a reasonably close game.
In reality - if I was picking a combined team from the two squads, I'd be tossing up between Ashwin and Lyon, but other than that I'd be picking Starc and Hazlewood from Oz and probably Khawaja instead of Rohit Sharma.

Also: Nigel Long is having a 'mare.

Nigel "that could have been anything" Llong is akin to Jerome "we have a deal" Garces.
Probably best not to mention him, I have a Llong memory (although if he has welsh heritage his name could be pronounced something like Thong or Schlong which amuses me).

If you were picking the team what would your batting lineup be?

@duluth tough to pick at the moment as some of the recent players aren't in hot form, but Finch doesn't seem to have the correct temperament for Test cricket so can't stay. One change, steady as she goes.
Renshaw - good brain for opening.
Harris
Waj
Marsh - 70 runs in that situation warrants another go, but I fear double-failure is around the corner
Hanscomb
Head
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood -

Which is why it would be tough to pick Renshaw.. agree that Finch has to go.
I would shift Khawaja to open with Harris. Move S Marsh up 3. Hanscomb and Head are worth sticking with
I would find room in the middle order for Wade as a batsman. He's in form and he fights
-
I like Khawaja at first drop - it's the most difficult spot to bat IMO and he's in good form.
-
@antipodean @Duluth which is why I'm fishing hard for another opener
I'm starting to warm to Paine as a captain. Shown generally good direction and leadership.. Far better keeper than Wade as well. Not that I didn't like him before, but it was all a bit "meh".

Yeah it's not even close between them as keepers. Wade was not up to Test standard. I think he has even conceded that he'll never play another Test as a keeper
I think he's worth another look as a batsman though. He's just about to turn 31, top scorer in the Sheffield Shield (571 @ 63) and he was in good form last year too.

Wade might have a public image problem. He was front and centre of a few claims the aussies were over the line (ie the opening post of this thread).
Paine is doing an admirable job at the absolutely worst time to be the Australian captain.

They've picked a team full of pussies and they still get plenty of hate.
Might as well try to win and be hated
