IF Finch and Marsh hadn't so spectacularly fucked up in the first dig, we MAY have scored more and had a lead BUT the Indian middle order would have been more circumspect, methinks
If you were picking the team what would your batting lineup be?
-
@duluth tough to pick at the moment as some of the recent players aren't in hot form, but Finch doesn't seem to have the correct temperament for Test cricket so can't stay. One change, steady as she goes.
Renshaw - good brain for opening.
Harris
Waj
Marsh - 70 runs in that situation warrants another go, but I fear double-failure is around the corner
Hanscomb
Head
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood -

Which is why it would be tough to pick Renshaw.. agree that Finch has to go.
I would shift Khawaja to open with Harris. Move S Marsh up 3. Hanscomb and Head are worth sticking with
I would find room in the middle order for Wade as a batsman. He's in form and he fights
-
I like Khawaja at first drop - it's the most difficult spot to bat IMO and he's in good form.
-
@antipodean @Duluth which is why I'm fishing hard for another opener
I'm starting to warm to Paine as a captain. Shown generally good direction and leadership.. Far better keeper than Wade as well. Not that I didn't like him before, but it was all a bit "meh".

Yeah it's not even close between them as keepers. Wade was not up to Test standard. I think he has even conceded that he'll never play another Test as a keeper
I think he's worth another look as a batsman though. He's just about to turn 31, top scorer in the Sheffield Shield (571 @ 63) and he was in good form last year too.

Wade might have a public image problem. He was front and centre of a few claims the aussies were over the line (ie the opening post of this thread).
Paine is doing an admirable job at the absolutely worst time to be the Australian captain.

They've picked a team full of pussies and they still get plenty of hate.
Might as well try to win and be hated

not sure if serious?

@mariner4life Ok, batting lineup full of pussies
7-11 is fine

Nigel "that could have been anything" Llong is akin to Jerome "we have a deal" Garces.
Jeez if you're going to hate on a bloke, at least get it right - it was Romain Poite, not Garces.
Nah Garces piped up with deal from the sideline. Poite enacted it
We do " hard done by" pretty thoroughly Barb๐

Finch isn't a pussie, he just lacks the technique and smarts to play test cricket. And unlike Warner, he's too old to learn.
-
Finch is a Test donkey who by now would have destroyed any semblance of confidence he had. He'll be a nervous wreck by the end of this series if the selectors persist with him.

No - Garces made the call from the sideline - the far touch - Poite was in the middle, but I don't like him much for it either. So if you're going to comment at least get it right...

Gotta give them all at least 2 tests. Probably should give them more as chopping and changing stuffed up the 2 probably next in line, Burns and Renshaw. Just need a test against us to get that career saving ton that just about every other player in the world gets!
But for the first 2 sessions of this test and some miracle hoping in the last, India had the upper hand (slight at times). Not sure if match results are the most important assessment markers for this team, be a well won series from here.
About the only positive is to leave them altogether and let them figure a way to be better in Perth. Fear of failure has been the major observation from these kids of late, they're all so tense, so take out selection anxiety and administrators lecturing and tinkering
All those Aussie bats are technically good enough on home wickets and no one is banging the door down, so take away that external
pressure and look for leadership and progress from within. Otherwise everyone's just waiting for and lamenting grumpy and dopey -
Might be a good toss to lose. Otherwise batting first should be the default. Talk of it being bouncy but no sample size to see how it plays. Another days rest for the bowlers would be handy.
Pivotal game this. What performance under pressure can Aus come up with and can the Indians finally not wilt in a test match in Australia?
No boring bat first WACA road this time and Aus haven't won there yet, (played twice)
Should be a beauty

@Siam as we Black Caps fans have known all too well in the past, a weak batting lineup makes the toss difficult in tests. Ideally you bat first no matter what, because fuck batting on day 5, but when you have no faith in your top order and fear the test could be over by lunchtime you can get apprehensive about what to do.
