over 11k responses in 4 days, plenty of people having their say
It'll probably delay it by another decade just to go through all the responses

Christchurch City Council research analyst Aimee Martin said today 30,500 submissions had been received on the stadium project - and 77 per cent were in support of ratepayers putting in more money.

Wow I’m surprised, good news
-
@Machpants so am i if im honest
they do need to get on with it now, one way or the other, theyd probably cop less flak if theyd build a smaller or uncovered one ages ago rather than dangling this awesome option out there but not actually building it
-
who would take on a fixed price contract in the current climate, unless your price is way above market?
Sure you price in contingencies, but the world be crazy and prices escalating, and the time frames involved here...

@taniwharugby this is what the council probably wanted, get buy in for increasing the budget so they can get a fixed price negotiated and hand it all off to someone else, if it comes in under budget (ie wasted money) they get to say they asked and everyone was fine with it...and if it goes over then its the contractors problem

actually read it
Bragg said securing this contract meant there was a “very, very low” chance of ratepayers having to stump up more money in the future, if councillors decide to spend an additional $150 million now.
not exactly "Fixed" then is it!

If it’s fixed price and prices go up, the options are
-
construction company makes a loss. They will do all they can to avoid this, so
-
they use inferior quality (cheaper) materials and/or cut corners
-
or they themselves negotiate fixed prices or discounts with suppliers…for suppliers then see 1 and 2

@Hooroo isn't it decided? i thought they'd agreed the new contract
Nah. They are deciding today. It’s live on stuff.
Non binery folk aren’t supportive, it appears. (This was in the submission a few moments ago)

Interesting, you'd think that they wouldn't assume it as a yes / no distinction.

From a business perspective that's the most stupid decision I have ever seen. If another price hike hits you have basically garenteed that your business is going down the drain. And at best the building company has garenteed that they won't make money on the job.
-
@Mackerzzzz thats not true, they have not guaranteed they wont make any money, they made the deal at the tail of covid when shipping materials was the hardest, lots to suggest they will become easier to source....and they will have hiked a huge premium onto the price to be locked in....the construction company is the last one im worried about
