I know AR blew the RWC budget, by millions including a mill spent on psychiatrists, add to this, and Eddie has cost a lot of people a lot of money!

Aus are proper fucked if they can't retain top young talent with a home Lions series and home World Cup around the corner.

Yeah, but Mark N is a bit of an outlier. I don't think any other player has a realistic chance at getting a league contract.

Good on him, will be interesting to see how he goes. These days I don't think you can be too attached to local players, the vast majority will go overseas at some point. But it's rarely permanent and I wouldn't be surprised if he came back in 2027 for the World Cup.

if i was a winger i would probably choose the NRL as well. More touches, more runs.

If you wanted to play footy, that would make sense. The issue for RA is the investment they've pout into Marky Mark for him to finally come good at Test level and now he's reportedly pissing off. Like @barbarian , I think he'd be motivated to come back for the Lions/ home RWC. The issue is Australia doesn't have a big problem developing backs.

He's switching in 2025 but no point selecting him for the Wallabies next year.

And acres of space because opposition wingers don't know how to defend wings.

If it helps us win games, select him if he's the best option.

Is it just me, but Marky Mark hasn't really lived up to his early hype?

It's just you. He's been awesome. Only played 11 tests and is one of the first names on the teamsheet now.

Agreed - his defence and contact work was the biggest concern when he started at the Tahs as a 20yo.

He's one of our top 5 back three players now.

I’ll bow to your superior knowledge, he’s never worried me from a chiefs and Nz point of view though. and obviously my care factor is pretty low - he’s an Aussie, and a league player now. 😀

I think 12-18 months ago your assessment would have been a fair one but he really kicked on lately.

Rugby Australia is pleased with the interest surrounding the national coaching role, with a strong list of local and foreign candidates building.

The Roar understands Australians Stephen Larkham, Dan McKellar and Andy Friend are all interested in the role, while foreigners Joe Schmidt and Ian Foster are also eyeing the role.

Any two of those five and I will be a happy man. Suspect, though, that other than Friend they won't want to play second fiddle to anyone.

Reading in The Australian that Marky Mark has elected to take a pay cut to go to the NRL. Take with your own measure of healthy scepticism, but apparently he had an offer from a Japanese club for three years at a million a year and will lose $300,000 over two years from his RA offer to join the Roosters and not playing against the Lions. An opportunity he'll never get again.
