@canes4life good squad, but Tupou is overrated.
-
@antipodean will they pick Alaalatoa ahead of him?

He doesn't lose half as many balls in contact and is just as good if not better in the scrum IMO.
-
@canes4life Slipper starting loosehead. Bell is just a pup.
-
@antipodean he's not better in the scrum IMO, but far more effective everywhere else. Tupou's ruckwork is embarrassingly lazy. For such a big, powerful guy he isnt actually that strong in contact either.

'Glancing contact'? WTF?
Let's just ignore that he was getting out of the ruck and looked at someone's head and took aim with a shoulder at it.
Accidental head contact doesn't get let off because you are supposed to take care but deliberate contact is OK if you don't quite succeed in causing damage? That is fucked.

Blowjobs given to the judiciary, obvs - that was fucking disgusting

Thought those Neanderthal features looked familiar. He’s the guy who was sent off in the Bledisloe game last year. Might be something of a liability for Rennie.
-
correct decision, shouldn't have even been a penalty in the first place.
-
@stargazer glancing
You have to question the competence and integrity of the judiciary watching that.
-
@antipodean get off the fucking ball and you won't cop one.
also it's not like he charged in, he leaned back and had another go. A red card is incredibly harsh already, a suspension on top would have been a double injustice.
if you play rugby, and if you stick your head over a ruck, you are going to get hit in the head. There is no way of avoiding it.
I feel like we are going about this brain impact thing all wrong in every code.

The rules are (were until this judicial hearing) quite clear. You can't join a ruck without binding which Swinton does in his second attempt, he leads with the head and shoulder directly at an opposition player's head. This isn't inadvertent or an accident, it's a deliberate action because he's frustrated and stupid.
Then we have to deal with the fact it's after the whistle.
If Niuia gets a YC, this is an easy red.
-
@antipodean look, we are never going to agree, and again i am going to have to reiterate this is my opinion based on when i played
i performed that action so many times for no sanction.
I also find the fact that no Chiefs reacted in any way, including the offended party, telling.
-
@mariner4life It was a different game back then. A player like Swinton would be sorted on the field and learn a valuable lesson in the process. Now that sort of education would receive an unholy sanction - that's why you don't see players giving him a smack in the mouth.
I don't consider this card a problem as much as the ludicrous fiasco that was Vaa'i being sent from the field for a rest.
-
@antipodean The rules may be 'clear' to you. But they fucken aren't to any ref or decision maker, apparently. There hasn't be one iota of consistency all year. Its a free for all.
Given the clusterfuck that it's turned into and the fact that he doesn't really lose anything by getting a 6 week ban over a 4 week ban, why wouldn't you roll the dice.
-
Can I just point out something else that’s a bit wrong with rugby in aus
Our club game doesn’t finish until after 5pm in Melbourne…and the final starts at 530
Would we have changed the start time of an Aussie team had made the final?
If so we’re making this thing up week to week
We’re just making it hard for rugby fans to watch rugby
