Maybe Latham should keep in the ODIs
He really needs to. Big problem with our team is that we don't really have a batting all rounder. If Latham keeps then we can have a batsman at 5, Anderson at 6, Neesham at 7 and Santner at 8 followed by three bowlers. If you have a keeper in there, then Anderson has to bat 5. Right now our middle order is struggling because Anderson is batting at 5 and he isn't up to doing that. Ronchi also shouldn't be there at all going forward (I can see why you would want him in India). The selectors are sticking with Devcich because they realise they need a batting all rounder but he just doesn't seem to be up to the task.

Anderson shouldn't even be in the side. He's not good enough or consistent enough to be there as a specialist batsman. With Ronchi shit, Santner for some odd reason having a bad tour with bat and ball, and Southee squandering the talent he has on 9/10 outings, our middle-lower order is too weak.
Thank god for Neesham right now. He and Henry are dragging our score towards respectable.

Fuckin' streaky shot for his 50, but well played Jimmy. Needed that, and you've set an example to the rest of the squad.
Will post this - should Ross move down to 5? Bringing in which ever is the best top 4 batter back in NZ in. (Maybe not for this tour)
-
Great innings from Neesh to get us up to something. This innings from Henry is something else!!

Taylor needs a bit of time to warm up. I think at 5 you want someone who is an accumulator. You want someone who can knock it around for singles and is not too reliant on boundaries. Elliott was superb in that role.

There's nobody back in NZ that comes even close to being as good as Taylor, and as @hydro11 says he's the kind of player that starts slow and accelerates his innings later on - he plans to bat the innings every time which is why he has so many tons.
-
Well, 285 after that start is probably a bit below par, but then after that massive collapse well above par. It gives Boult something to bowl at anyway... runs on the board can build pressure.
-
@Mokey yep. dropped on 2. finishes 154 not out. even though you finally made some runs ross, that's still -110 for the day.
positives neesham and henry, and despite the dig above taylor finally getting some form back is the most important thing for us really.

which is only good if he actually scores big. admittedly even 40 from 40 is fine. just feels like our middle order let us down massively (again)

All I have to say about that run chase is we got Kohli'd. Bound to happen at least twice in a 5 match series. Rosco needs to be spanked 152 times by Kane for that.
In other news England just managed to hold off Bangladesh. Bangles went into the final day needing 33 runs to win with 2 wickets in hand... lost by 22. Gutted!

There were some terrible shots in that middle order - worst was Corianderson who slapped a full toss straight to mid-off. When you're in at 5 in an ODI, you have to be more responsible than that, you're more than powerful enough to punish them in the later overs once set.
-
It's a miracle - we've won the toss!!!! Though the Cricinfo commentators are suggesting that with the dew factor, Kane's made a mistake in batting first. Additionally, I'm inclined to think we should have put the Indians in because they prefer to chase.
Apparently we're playing three spinners - Devcich, Santner and Sodhi - Cricinfo is a bit confusing in that they've listed Anderson to play, but are seemingly saying he's not. It would be sensible to bat Neesham at five given recent form.
Let's hope we go better against the Indians than the Cubs did.
