I just wanted to say that's an appalling call. There was no roll, no grasping of the neck, it was nothing. If the guy has his head below the hips there is going to be high contact. Stop fucking up rugby you ref fluffybunnies!
An Ayoubism. Gardner was letting it go. Crap call.

Weird call, I know you can't dummy throw but early decoy jumpers I see all the time.
I think (think!) you can jump early but not lift early. They were bound as he jumped.
The above should not be taken as gospel.

Basically you can't jump or lift before the ball leaves the hookers hands. It is the equivalent of 'foot up' in a scrum.
While Gardner was correct and obviously wanted to clean the line out contest up for the game, it would have been better to have a word at the next break and warn them of going to penalties (same with the 'early movement call' on Coles). Owens or Joubert would have done that rather than disrupt the flow of the game which took an age to find any rhythm.
Get the game flowing first and your job as ref becomes easier IMO because players are operating more smoothly and making less errors.

Looks like Hansen and co know what they are talking about -Ardie needs to put on a few more kgs to warrant a starting role.
and get fitter.
It might just be the way he carries himself but he often looks like a forward equivalent of Sivivatu on an uninterested day.

South Africa are absolute world beaters, luckily for New Zealand we have political interference which allows your boys to remain competitive.
There are already very few teams that can keep up with AB's for 60 min, RIP those captivating matches we as spectators used to be treated to.
There is not a tier 1 coach in the world that would accept the criteria imposed by SARU. Until that changes, we will continue to unravel.

Agree with sentiments that we need to play England to see how good we are because we are smashing everyone else,
England getting better everytime they don't play.
-
@Crucial can't say I agree. This wasn't an error in timing or execution. It was a deliberate transgression.
And i disagree that the referee's job is to get the game flowing first and then blow shit up he ignored earlier.
Sure don't go looking for an early penalty, but that was a blatent and deliberate breach.
-
@broughie Yes they won 3 from 3. But they weren't dominant in any of them. They were IMO on a par with Aus but knew how to score a few more points.
The results have given them a slightly inflated rep.
-
@taniwharugby exactly my point. We don't play till 2018. I can't see England maintaining their record between now and then (been wrong before ... ) so I don't why we've put them up on such a pedestal now.
What happens if or when England drop to No.6 by the end of next year? Are we still in awe?
Conversely we drop a couple of games and to the unplumbed depths of No.2 (ok we have been No.2 before so not unplumbed ... ).
To misquote Cheika: England are irrelevant to me.

It was still an away result which is worth something. Eddie Jones is a good coach and has a 5 - 6 record against the ABS which a lot of coaches would envy.
-
This game followed the template of the other home tests this year - a tight 1st half before running over the top of the opposition in the 2nd half.
One thing Hansen and Smith will want to rectify is that both Arg and SA have exposed the AB's defensive alignment close to the breakdown on occasion when they recycle the ball quickly.

I disagree. It wasn't a technical or marginal breach of the law. The Boks very deliberately lifted their man 2-3 seconds early to prompt the ABs to jump, and then they threw over the top to the unmarked jumper behind. Their actions are exactly what the law is designed to prevent and so they were pinged.
I thought Gardiner was very good.

I think you mean England need to play us to if they are actually any good.
We know we are good, we have won the last 2 RWC's, have lost like 3 games during the past 100 years.
What exactly do we have left to prove??

@Damo the neck roll thing aside, I agree.
Sure, but the neck roll was on the TMO. While it's true the ref can overrule a TMO, Gardiner was explicitly instructed that it was a PK. In most circumstances a ref should not overrule a TMO where he isn't sure himself. I don't blame the ref at all for listening to the TMO.
The TMO on the other hand. ...

@Stargazer He is injured alot so it is not surprising.
As you may have missed, Crotty isn't injured at all. It was just a stupid assumption from the commentators, who seem to have missed the fact that the coaches might want to give ALB a run and that ALB's preferred spot is at 12.
He also doesn't get injured often. He was injured at the beginning of the Super Rugby season because he had a DIY accident at home, so nothing rugby related. During the rest of the season he only missed one game. He had the head knock during the second game v Wales, which ruled him out for the third. Head knocks can happen to anyone; one single head knock that keeps a player out of the match day squad for one game doesn't indicate a weakness. It's clear you're not a fan, but at least get your facts right.

You always have to prove something. OK so let me ask it this way. Who is the next team on the horizon that may test us beyond the rugby championship?
