Judging by your age, he would have played in or around their golden age?

Just before the heyday
Still had plenty of success and stars
A precursor to their best period

And a few stories no doubt!

UK Government to step in with help for England Premier Rugby.
Would be good to see the RFU actually think outside the box, for once take some action and do something for the game - but I'm not holding my breath. Much too easy to pass the buck onto HMG.

@Catogrande Really shitty to see what has happened to both Wasps and London Irish. I remember them both as successful and happy West London clubs before the money sharks jumped in.
My accountant used to play for Wasps in the 70/80's. Remember his predicting and explaining why it would all go tits-up over a few beers about 10 years ago, and the huge negative impact it could have on Rugby in England as whole.
Did the money sharks make money or was it all a plaything for rich dickheads?

London Irish are goooooonnnneeeee.

Speaks volumes for the state of English Rugby that every time this thread gets a new post, I start wondering if another England Club is about to go tits-up

It’ll be interesting to see if the proposed governmental
interferenceinitiative will influence the outcome. My guess will be that measures will be put in place too late to save Irish but just in time to hamstring the rest oh English rugby. And people call me a cynic.

Horrible news I think. I don't wish this on any club, and in long run not good for our game.

@Dan54 three clubs in one year. Championship isn't looking very viable moving forward.
On the plus side, that's one less nation pillaging Aus and NZ talent. Part of me thinks fuck them, for overpaying and going broke.
They spent 900000 pounds per year on Adam Coleman, yeah some poor financials in there!

@Machpants it can't have been that much? Maybe dollars. It was reported that Arnold earning 1.5m dollars in Japan made him the highest paid Aussie. 800 pounds is about the same no?
It was in the Guardian article, so it could be wrong. But that is the number they used

Yep. Peak Retallick or peak Whitelock would not have been available. Wrapped up comfortably by the NZRFU, nationally lauded, great career prospects and part of the legend. Never gonna happen. Post peak (by quite some way) is another matter.
