Whatever else he does in cricket from now on, Santner will be forever remembered by a generation of Indian fans.
I can’t think of any other examples of such a maligned player doing what he did…..
Someone performing so well relative to his record to set up an amazing victory……
Doug Bracewell maybe ? We all had such high hopes after Hobart but Santner has been average for much longer and essentially did it TWICE.

Biggest Black Caps result I can remember. Hammering India in India to go 2-0 and win a series? As big a thing as ypu can do in cricket. I watched far better Australian sides go there and fail repeatedly.
This is fucking huge and these players will be spoken about with reverence for ever. When we are really old we'll sit around with our mates over beers and talk about the '24 Indian tour like we talk about Paddles in Australia.
Amazing.
It's scary to think Paddles was nearly 40 years ago. I have a feeling I won't be sitting around talking in 40 years time.

Time for a reassessment of our strengths and weaknesses I think. Does anyone in NZ know how to doctor a pitch for spin?
Might order a couple of those giant fans that the Indian curator was using for Bay Oval...

Reminds me a bit of Chris Pringle getting 10 against Pakistan. That one was even more out of the blue, I think he still has the record for fewest test wickets to include a 10fer. (Also, much dodgier than Santner since he admitted to ball tampering)
no bottle caps involved for this 10fer.

Freakish performance in an otherwise very ordinary career ( bloody awesome ODI bowler though ! )
Might have to discount it given we actually lost that test, he got 11, Waqar Younis got 12 !

Yeah Pringle and Santner both being good short form bowlers was part of what made me think of it.

I forgot that we lost the one where Pringle did so well, Waqar and/or Wasim sure made our lives hell.

This must rank up there as one of if not the biggest test series upset of all time?
We have been basically shit the last year or so, we were embarrassed in Sri Lanka just before this series. Kane is back at home, Southee fell on his sword as captain, Satnav probably wouldn’t have even made the tour if Michael Bracewell was fit..
All that in a mad cricket nation that has only lost at home 4 times since 2010 and hadn’t lost a series since 2012.
Not only did we win the first 2 tests but it wasn’t even close. And on such differing pitches.Cricinfo will be talking about this for decades to come

Yeah there was a bit of dramatic over the top posting on here during both tests but in the end both were pretty comfortable victories.
Throw in the WTC final in 2021, do India choke in big games against us ?
Their big guns with imposing records ( Ashwin, Jadeja and Bumrah ) did fuck all against us.
You’d back one or two of them ( particularly at home ) to absolutely dominate but it never happened.
The much vaunted batting fired in one out of four innings. A fucken DISASTER in the first.
Still pinching myself. I honestly expected a couple of innings defeats in a row. Instead we were the ones who wrapped things up in quick succession.
…..and no, I can’t off the top of my head think of a bigger test cricket upset.

Santner can have the Keys to Hamilton at this rate.
Would he want them?
He would if some bogan hadn't stolen the locks.

Also like to add. Fuck settling for 2-0 or 2-1
Let’s finish the job and fucking white wash them 3 zip…….and from there a damn good thrashing of our colonial masters who have the good grace to tour for a three test series.
Their fans are bloody good value though.

From what I’ve heard Sobers was an extraordinary batsman but that bowling record ? Ok, very handy for a team to have but really ? 235 wickets in 93 tests ? Chris Martin got 233 in 71…….
um Who did Martin have bowling at the other end?
