Hurricanes 2025

This feels like one of these rumours which could have been inadvertently twisted. Cashmore could have been described as a former NZ rep, or a relation of a former All Black, and along the grapevine it has been changed to '[former] All Black'
Cashmore surely won't be at the Blues, and is better than many of the contracted first fives so would make a great deal of sense.

@Bovidae given that the player himself told my source that hes heading to the Canes next year i’m inclined to to believe thats how its gone play out.
Perofeta also offers a goalkicking optionI certainly hope you’re on the money mate. He’ll be a solid edition to the Canes, the sort of 10 we need outside of Roigard. The Canes are definitely going to have an attacking mindset (like they do most years) but with all of Roigard, Perofeta, Naholo, Higgins, Banks and Love in the backline, the Canes will score plenty of points.

And Perofeta will have a golden opportunity to show everyone what he has. No excuses

Yea I read that too and by the way Laidlaw is speaking it sounds like Perofeta isn't coming.
Of course - he may simply not be allowed to say so yet.
I hope either way we get Harkin. I think he has a big future so we don't want to let him go down south. No room at Blues or Chiefs but if I was the Landers or Crusaders I'd be trying to secure him.

Godfrey commits long term and Punivai commits for the next two seasons.
@Bones you’ll be happy with the Punvai signing.

@foobaNZ a good utility covering centres/wing - watched couple of club games, and the few cameos off the bench for the canes, not the fastest on the block but reads the game well and safe under high ball and on defence
Yeah I’m happy with that signing. I mean he’s a solid player, I’d rate him higher than Fihaki and he can cover more positions.
Glad we’ve locked in Godfrey. A key cog in our team going forward.
-
@BerhamporeNinja I didn’t think he would stick around to be honest I’m not, not unhappy about him re signing Godfrey though absolutely over the moon about.

According to this translated French article Patrick Tuifua will go to the Hurricanes -
Despite the approach of several clubs in France, the new nugget of French rugby has decided to continue his adventure in New Zealand. He will carry out the preparation with the Hurricanes franchise.
Since October 12, and the elimination of Hawke's Bay in the quarter-finals of the Bunnings NPC against Bay of Plenty (19-17), third-row center Patrick Tuifua , who impressed during his time with the French under-20 team, has a difficult choice before him: give in to the sirens of the Top 14 or pursue his dream of playing with the Hurricanes.
According to our indiscretions, the most sought-after French prospect on the market (Toulon, La Rochelle , Paris, Montpellier and Toulouse were ready to recruit him with immediate effect) preferred to make the choice of the heart. Following several interviews, the revelation of the last 2024 Six Nations Tournament said yes to the New Zealand franchise.
In the coming months, the interested party will devote himself to preparing for the next Super Rugby. He will thus try to land a contract with the "Canes". Beyond the Top 14 clubs, it is also a hard blow for Fabien Galthié and the federal fold. The coach of the French XV is closely following the development of the player who was born in New Caledonia. He was even expected to join the last summer tour in Argentina. If he stays another year on New Zealand territory, which is currently the trend, Patrick Tuifua will be eligible for the All Blacks.

That's awesome news, maybe why they released TK Howden. Hopefully Tuifua remains loyal to the black jersey.

I have updated the squad list at the top of this thread to include Perofeta and Tuifua who are rumoured to be on there way to the Canes.

That is a really good get for the Canes. The kid looks like a massive talent

He wasn't very noticeable for Hawkes Bay this year but the kid has plenty of size. At 20 years of age, he's listed at 1.91m and 113kg. He's pretty much the same size (1kg heavier) than prime Jerry Collins and he still hasn't developed fully yet.
