Nooooooooooooooooooo

@Yeetyaah Sorry just the messenger , heard he hasn’t been happy about being played on the wing .
There’s some other possible movement from Waikato but can’t say at this time as there’s some negotiations going in the background -

@george33 have also heard the Blues are looking at Quinn Tupaea and his brother Mason who was with the Blues this year as injury cover
Reiko Ioane possibly heading off on a sabbatical, if that happens Tupaea likely to come north
I do apologise if this has been mentioned beforeIsn't he more a 12? Would Lam move out one?
-
@nostrildamus I think he can play 13 reasonably well but you are correct if you look at from Blues point of view on the possibility of losing Reiko you would want an experienced midfielder.
-
I don't think that Tupaea played that much on the wing for the Chiefs this year. Maybe more that Poihipi was favoured at 12 at the back end of the season.
He has played a little at centre for Waikato in the past.
I'll add that he is contracted for 2025.
-
Love the insight @Steven-Harris. Perofeta is a really interesting signing for the Canes, not sure what I make of it yet.
-
@Canes4life probably better convo for the Canes thread but a 27 year old first with experience is perfect imo. Wanganui boy of course. He can run the cutter with Harkin off the pine.

Definitely more of a 12 (played a bit at centre earlier in his career but couldn't handle the defensive requirements) so Lam to 13 would make the most sense.

@Canes4life Would be interested to know if he sees himself as a fullback or first five looks better suited to the XV jersey imo .
Possibly Love to first five , liked the look of the young guy who filled in for JGB at the Lions
I wonder if the Blues were blindsided by this although fair to say they have good cover in the 15 jersey -

Yeah Callum Harkin is also a solid option, it’s bullshit that JGB has kept infront of him at the Lions.

@Bovidae So is Perofeta but apparently off to the Canes.
Of course, contracts can be broken but I'd be disappointed if the Chiefs gave the Blues another contracted player with no movement in the other direction.

@george33 highly unlikely have just spoken to his dad after seeing your coms ,don’t know where you got that info from he’s with the Blues again 2025 then again even dads keep secrets
What I can tell you is Stephen Perofeta is off to to the Canes for 2025
James Mullan hooker from Canterbury coming to the Blues in 2025
Driven very much by Jason Ryan
Got couple of other bits but rather have that information cross referenced first 😉Huge mate good stuff. I’ll also add to this.
A team in Japan wanted Perofeta last year but he didn’t want to go. He has now said he wants to go but the club have already picked up Mitch Hunt so don’t want Perofeta anymore.
From what I’ve been told around the 10 situation at the Canes and take the above paragraph into consideration too, the Canes move would make sense.

Next year I'll be happy with giving Plummer a good run at 10. Sullivan, Barrett, and maybe Perofeta as 2nd play makers from 15 will give good support and kicking options. He works well with Christie and Funaki, and Lam provides a solid platform at 12. Evans made good progress last year, and getting some quality minutes from Heem will be a bonus.

Good chance Perofeta will be at the Canes.

Been thinking about the above comment from Steven Harris and decided to have a speculate by cross-checking potential super quality Waikato players with likely positions available in the Blues squad. I came up with 3 names -
(Putting aside the Tupaea brothers rumor) these are my possible guesses -
Xavier Saifoloi - to replace Rush at blindside. An Auckland boy, only 21 and a big unit who is Cotters type of ball carrying forward.
Or Andrew Smith - hugely impressive young blindside from the NZ U20's.
Tepaea Cook-Savage - utility value - 15, wing, 10. Noticeably missing from the NZ sevens squad that played a warmup tournament this weekend.
I would be happy to have any of them in the squad. All have good potential. If any of these come off just call us Chiefs North from now on! -
@Daffy-Jaffy would love to share but because there are some current negotiations I have been told to hold off until they are confirmed
There’s definitely a couple of current Waikato players who are off contract whom are looking for other avenues much will depend on what Reiko Ioane does in terms of a sabbatical .. -
Tepaea Cook-Savage said his body was just holding together after the Taranaki QF game so I wouldn't make the assumption that just because he wasn't involved at the sevens in Te Puke means he isn't in the NZ sevens squad. I'm sure he'd like to play SR, and is a Northlander.
I'd be more pissed if locals leave Waikato than the Chiefs.
