World Rugby confirms changes to be implemented across the global game

WR have to do something to improve the watchability of the product.
Like, SA is the winningest team right now, but for me, totally unwatchable . . . if the score is close it gets a bit exciting.
But f'n about at scrum time to have a rest, playing to get opposition players yellow carded, and not playing rugby at all when they've got themselves ahead on the scoreboard.
What a bunt of a way to play . . . makes the ad breaks enjoyable (and i hate ads with a passion!)As for red cards, 20 minnutes is better, but i'd still replace the ejected player straight away!

I actually want more red cards, they'd clean up the game real quick then. So long as they keep the teams even.And if you are concerned about someone getting taken out in a premeditated/targeted manner.
You'd want to be real careful with that, that wouldn't be a rugby matter, that would be a police matter.
Taking out an NFL QB (say Mahomes) would be an obvious move if you are thinking like that, but it doesn't happen.
You'd never hear the end of it if it did..As for the TMO, I notice the NFL this season allow their TMOs to step in straight away if there is an obvious error, they just tell the ref to change his decision. No discussion, they just do it. NFL refs seldom look at a TV monitor now.
As for crooked lineouts, who cares really, i've never seen a halfback put the ball into a scrum straight ever!
And you're caring 'bout not straight lineouts . . .And the rolling maul! That's offside/obstruction every time, the whole play should have been outlawed years ago!
You can't join the maul from an offside position, but if you are already offside that's ok . . . really!And always wondered whether you could flank a ruck like at a scrum, so you could get to the half quicker. Clear now that you cant.

The issue for me was consistency. If every head contact got a red card, happy days - but you wind up wiht the Cane (red) and Kolisi (not red). Or SBW (red) and Marler (not red). It's fraught, and there are a shedload more red cards. This will drive the behaviour but not wreck games the same way. I'm all for it.

That's why I like the Orange card Any head contact = 10 or 20 min orange card with replacement after. Red is permanent and for the dirty stuff it used to be (rare). Yellow for the things it used to be outside of head contact. No ifs buts or maybes hit the head = orange

Not enough of a disincentive to make people tackle lower IMO, thought the way it was refereed in the NH before the World Cup last year was fine, consistency, protocols to allow mitigation, refs supported, players understood it. If Super rugby had done the same we wouldn’t have got into the shit we did at the World Cup.

Haaaaated all the RCs at the RWC. Changes look ok to me. Definitely will favour NZ compared to some of the other sides. Irish won’t be pleased.

How is being ejected from the game not enough of a disincentive, and what would you change if you were in charge?
For individual players, it's the exact same disincentive as with the old red cards. I don't really think players are thinking, 'Well, even if I get sent off for the match and banned for three games, my team will still have someone back on the field after 20 minutes so I'm not going to bother trying to tackle lower'.

It’s not enough of an incentive for coaches to teach players to tackle lower - that means less time spent on it in practice. Saw a stat that suggested South Africa hit way lower than the other three teams in the RC - that’s not an accident, they’ve also had way fewer cards - they have the most scientific coaching team.
What I would do is enforce the current laws properly in the SH and tell the whinging prick commentators to shut up about it, head shots are fucking dangerous to players future lives. That’s the reason it was brought in in the first place.

The studies out of Ireland and apparently France and England show that tackle height have lowered and injuries have fallen since the policing of head high tackles was taken more seriously. South Africa have clearly lowered their tackle height as a result of the punishments for high tackles. It seems it has worked in most places. With one or two obvious exceptions…
