    @No-Quarter Ethan Roots gave us problems in both English games, and that may have influenced thinking. But every chance he’d have been just as effective against Bladder or Wallace. Ironical that he slipped through Razors fingers at Saders.

    And to think I felt players and teams often got up and put on a great display to celebrate esteemed team mates in their swansong. I must be the only one that wants to see Cane and TJP given a great send-off in Wellington!
    Must be wrong about there being a leadership issue in the AB's this year too, while our regular posters are confident adding some newbies and anointing Wallace and Cortez in the leadershipgroup will do the trick.
    I think both players have fully earned a hometown farewell after huge AB careers, even though nobody else seems to suggest that online.

    @gt12

    All from RugbyPass

    Agreed on quality of opposition but we have had a tough schedule. Really the only games against Tier 2 opposition have been Fiji and arguably Australia. The only points those two provided were a lack of work rate from Jacobson and Cane's continuing tackling issues, along with Blackadder having a shocker that wasn't repeated. That might be unfair on Jacobson.

    Focused on only starters to mitigate the issue around when those minutes were played. I see people are calling for Finau, but he started two tests at six, had a decent work rate but missed tackles and had zero impact with the ball in hand.

    Don't take this the wrong way, but I'd trust your analysis far more if you could get access to real stats.

    I would love the GPS data, however for tackle stats, carries and metres run, RugbyPass is pretty accurate.

    A few guys here have access to Opta so can probably comment on that better than I, however I believe Rugbypass doesn't have ruck attendance, cleans etc.

    It annoys the shit out of me because, like you, I'd like to get a feel for the data. However, with huge areas of the game not covered by the available stats, I'm not sure the ones we can access are that useful.

    @gt12

    Completely agree.

    I remember a long time back when one writer used to publish first 3 to a ruck stats for the ABs, I would argue that stat is no longer relevant. Ruck ball is typically won with an accurate first clean due to the pace of the game and the structures played these days. The third person to a ruck typically just leans on it now.

    The stats I would love to see is time on the ground / time taken to regain feet. From what I have heard those stats have consistently ruled some loosies out of the squad in recent years.

    That's what the canterbury mafia here is saying about Sotutu.

    I had forgotten that Finau only got 57 minutes in the first test and 49 in the 2nd. That skews his stats big time. It's frustrating that they have gone with Blackadder at 6 as that both fucked the balance and has meant Finau wasn't able to grow at this level. "Not great but not terrible" is actually OK against England given his age and experience, and he clearly has the talent and physical attributes to go very well there.

    It seems like a combination of Crusader bias and a love of Sam Cane that is screwing the balance at the moment. If Blackadder plays, it has to be at 7 as that is where you want your tackler. But they've immediately gone to Cane since his return from injury so their chosen one has to slot in at 6, and having two of the same player out there was never going to work.

    Cane can't leave soon enough. It will force Razor to make changes

    I think this will be his last test match.

    Gets to his 100 and soyonara.

    I’m convinced that his mgmt team has done a deal to get him to a 100 so the NZR can get him off the books

    With Jordie injured and ALB stinking out the joint 12 is looking REALLY bad all of a sudden.

    Don't worry, DH is in the squad.

    It's possible considering JB is probably injured and ALB didn't play well. Or a surprise selection of Plummer at 12, him and RI have played together a lot

    I'd like to see ALB/RI play after having a full week training together though

    I'd rather have DH at 12. He at least had some experience.

    And the Fern meltdown will be an opportunity to reduce my popcorn stockpile.

    I remember in Razor's puff piece doco, he talked about Dropping Wyatt Crockett (?). So the implication was that he is quite able to drop a player if they aren't performing, regardless of reputation

    Havili should be nowhere near ABs XV, let alone ABs squad. We need to move on from these weak, old, slow, flawed players. I can't beleive anyone would suggest this.
