and so finals.
Storm confirm minor premiership. That club is amazing, their veterans keep producing, the find good role players out of previously discarded journeymen, and they have awesome kiwis. Can defend. And for their success, they get the Cowboys this weekend, in what should be a fucking stormer of a game.
The wheels are hopefully falling off the grub bus from Cronulla. They've slipped to third, and have to travel to play the suddenly wildly entertaining Raiders.
In the minor finals, the Broncos should be too good for Jaryd Hayne. And likewise the Panthers for the massively one-dimensional Bulldogs.
This week's NRL controversy saw everyones favourite pest get off a blatant late shoulder charge because reasons. While a low-profile Raider got the book thrown at home and is facing the prospect of missing the entire finals.
How shit was the Warriors finish? Smacked in their last 4 games to dive headlong out of the 8, again. Fuck off Cappy you're done. The club is screaming out for a ruthless, hard-edged coach, and a couple of players who are actual professionals.
Storm and Raiders through to the week off. Broncos and Panthers through to play the Cowboys and Sharks.

And, in my first reading of a Mad Monday beat-up, some bitch from some group has had a crack at a couple of Parra players for dressing up as prison inmates (one has been in prison you know!) because, and get this, "They should be discouraging the idea that it is a good idea to be a criminal. It’s too easy for young people to be misled"
What. The. Fuck.

I was a massive Penrith fan back in the day, and then switched to the Warriors when they joined the comp. I really don't watch much league anymore, mainly because the Warriors are just such an annoying team to support. Half the time you are just completely wasting your time watching them as the players don't appear to give a fuck, and the other half they play good footy. The risk of wasting my time watching a lacklustre performance has put me off bothering altogether.
I suppose I could switch back to Penrith but the glory days of when they won the thing in 91 with legends like Alexander, Fittler and Geyer are long since gone. They had an awesome jumper back then:
-
@No-Quarter The Panthers are probably worth jumping back on. In Moylan they have a genuine star at the back. Their young halves could be anything, they play pretty entertaining footy with young players, and they are on the improve. Ugly fucking strip though. And Phil Gould is still involved
-
@mariner4life It's not like they were pissing in each other's mouths or trying to molest neighbourhood pets. It's just no fun being a pro sportsman anymore

I remember being at Panthers that night. There must have been 30,000 there. You couldn't move. The only people sober would have been the ones that robbed the place the next day.

im a storm supporter ,but Raiders are the team I fear the most ,
Although the storm have been more consistent , I think the Raiders best is more dynamic , they are more capable of blowing you off the park.
Joey Leilua has to be the most under rated player going around ?
Not sure why Daley didnt pick him

Leilua is my most hated player. I can't stand him. There's just something about him that annoys me.
I think I'll support the Storm from here - one they have Bromwich, two they have Harris who's a Bay boy, and three they have a bunch of other Kiwis, balanced out by Cam Smith but he's not enough to tip it over the edge.

Heard a very interesting interview with Mark Gasnier about the Warriors woes. Much of what he has to say rings pretty true. Says that at present, league doesn't reward teams that play with too much flair - Warriors style isn't conducive to success. He said when the Dragons used to play the Warriors they knew that eventually they'd push an offload too many - so that they (the Dragons) could dominate field position and possession. Dragons eventually won a title with an inferior team, but by playing a conservative style of football.
Quite a bit more. Well worth a listen - starts at 7.40.

@Chris-B. Was it that interview when they mentioned that over the last 5 games of the last 4 seasons the Warriors had only won 5/20. That just shows how shite their end of season run is. We get an inflated sense of being ok during origin with a shitty start and finish at either end.
-
@mariner4life It's nothing to do with who's the grubbiest (anyway, we know you Queenslanders defend 'your' grubs ;)) and he's a really good player, I just don't like him.

Has Gasnier actually watched the Warriors this year? Having no structure doesn't mean playing with flair.

@Nepia Hmmmmm
- Cappy is apparently fixing the culture at the WoWos
- We look like a rabble on the pitch
- The players really like him
Is he related to the Hammateur? Brothers from different mothers eh?
The players really liking him is probably half the problem! If they are playing shit they should hate the coach, but respect him
-
So Wighton gets off, because apparently his "tackle" wasn't a shoulder charge. Ridiculous decision.
Both of those cases on the weekend were shoulder charges, both should have been charged, and both should have been found guilty. The NRL really don't help themselves do they? So reactionary, and so little thought given to how they go about things.
-
@mariner4life It comes as no surprise. The NRL judiciary is exemplary in its ability to make SANZAAR a shining paragon of justice. The lawyer must have found a single frame where there was a glimmer of daylight between Wighton's arm and his body.

Its been a pretty phenomenal turnaround by Joey Leilua. Unwanted at the Knights not that long ago and now a standout season with the red hot Raiders.
Rapana is having a big season. He's a good kid and whilst its taken him a while to get to this level after playing for the Titans as a teenager way back when, he's showing his wares on a more consistent basis.
But I can't support the green machine. Any team that has 'Sticky' associated with it will never get a cheer from me....
