Just throwing my two cents out there.
I remember Razor made a relevant point in the recent documentary how he and Leon approached the game differently, he was saying how he tends to look for 'what could go right' whereas Leon tends to look for 'what could go wrong'.
I think it comes down to their mindset. Razor is an optimist by nature and risk-taking individual while Leon's coaching and selections have always tended to be conservative and low-risk in nature - see his Blues tenure.
Leon is conventional and coaches more by the book while Razor is the opposite of that, he's more of an unshackled unorthodox free-spirited individual Lol.... maybe Razor is right into that new age stuff?

Position now vacant in the 50 coaches for the ABs

Interesting watching the Razor interview.
Sounded like someone announcing a divorce.
Not about selections, just different coaching philosophies. They are not aligned apparently.
I guess we have to wait for one of them to write a book to possibly find out. -
Razor and Leon always seemed like very philosophically different coaches to me, I'm honestly more surprised they were still so intent on working together after 4 years forging different paths in SR, especially after Leon originally parted ways with Razor after just 1 season at the Crusaders. Thoughts @Chris?

These were the official job descriptions:
Scott Roberston (Head Coach)
Jason Ryan (Assistant Coach - Forwards)
Leon MacDonald (Assistant Coach - Attack)
Scott Hansen (Assistant Coach - Defence)
Jason Holland (Assistant Coach - Backs)
Tamati Ellison (Contact Skills Coach)
Wayne Smith (Performance Coach) -

Gut instinct says they had too many coaches so no need to replace Leon
i would if there was a chance o getting someone like Tony Brown....but not just get someone because they think they need someone
-
what the fuck is a contact skills coach?
And considering how badly we are losing contact areas, why does he still have a job?

If they were to bring someone in would like to see the likes of Cory Jane or Ben Smith considered
-
They wont be bringing in anyone
MacDonald won’t be replaced. Instead, assistant coach Scott Hansen and contact skills coach Tamati Ellison will take on additional responsibilities.
The All Blacks also have former Hurricanes coach Jason Holland on board as a specialist attack coach.

Yeah me too I wondered if it would work,
It didn’t at the Crusaders and again it was 2 different coaching directions and thought patterns.
No suprise to me it didn’t work. -
@Chris Senz reporting Hansen from to attack, Ellision to defence, the roles they had at Crusaders under Razor. Since Leon isn't being replaced does this mean Ellison will travel to SA and stay with the All Blacks permanently? Surely he can't take that Crusaders HC gig now, he needs to commit to one role or else ABs will need a new defense coach in 2026...

He can't anyway as Rob Penney is still the incumbent in that position, at least for now.
-
No, the point is Ellison is groomed to take over Crusaders in 2026, I'd rather he commit to ABs until 2027 World Cup so we're not facing more coaching changes... he is a good defense coach, highly rated - 3 titles with Crusaders as defense coach and Wellington's first title in 22 years as defence coach. Losing him from the AB setup would be a big blow. @Chris?

On the field the Crusaders were terrific the one year Leon was assistant (2017). Was there murmurings of coaching clashes?

Yes I heard there was a clash
