I really don't understand why they continue to select Havili only to continue to keep him in civvies on match day
He should start writing a book because he has better access than anyone in the press
He's a token All Black. A rubber stopper for a door gap but not a very big one.
A 12 with an accurate cross kick is gold against the Boks’ fishhook defending.
We shall see!
Check out 8:40
Can't DMac and BB do that? (Edit: maybe JB can or can't, I can't remember this from him).
-
@nostrildamus they can, but think it works best off 12. Sure Jordie could crack it with a little practice.

What a beauty this one was. I love the crushed look on Willie Le Roux's face after Bridge scores. Perfection.
Proof that Bridge could break a tackle!

@MiketheSnow He won seven Super Titles under Razor so it's safe to say he really likes him.
Except he's shit against Tier 1 teams. His level is not high quality Tests.
Springboks in 2022 were Tier 2?
😀
He has one good game and gets kissed on the dick for the rest of his career....

What I find interesting, all the talk about ellis park being such an intimidating place to play ,and I’m sure it is , we seem to enjoy that challenge.
We have won 5 of the last 6 there , it seems to be a ground that has brought out the best in us
-
wait we are not kissing Havili on the dick for that try are we??? The most important person in the whole thing is Aaron Smith, who whips that wide pass, then backs up the winger, AND cleans the ruck.
The kick pass wasn't even needed or that great, the winger has to stop and get it, and beats the defender with a goose stepFuck our standards have dropped

I wish we could have cloned Aaron Smith
his pass is just sublime. Incredible player and you see what he created.
Hell, his passing kept the Highlanders competitive for years by letting them attack 2 or 3 channels outside the ruck.
/sigh
I miss him

Aaron Smith was our lineout MVP because his pass turned 2-ball in to attacking ball. Made life for our hookers a lot easier

Nuggie was the best passing halfback I’ve seen , I know there have been other great halfbacks , better running games or kicking games perhaps.
But when it comes to distribution, he was the goat .

DH's mighty frame up against the Boks? Shudder.
Though interestingly vs South Africa:
Dave Havili: played 5: won 3: lost 2
Jordie Barrett: played 8: won 3: lost 5(I think Jordie is 1:2 at 2nd five)

The passing is enhanced by his speed to the ruck and the lines he runs across the field. The close out of the 2013 Ireland test was probably the greatest example of this especially when the defensive ruck pressure from Ireland was high.
Perenara has good speed also and he’s also excellent supporting whether for an offload or if the ball carrier is tackled and we need clean out support. It’s what happens when we need quick ball that concerns me. Against the Boks ruck pressure we will need him to clear ball quickly.

So the two losses at 12 are the shitshow pre world cup warm up effort at Twickenham and the final where Cane got red carded and Frizell got yellow carded?
Correct.
One of Dave's losses was to an injury time penalty goal when DH had been subbed at 65 minutes.

to me the main difference is they can both get the ball out fast, but A Smith almost every time finds the right guy to give it to, where as TJ seems to find the wrong guy too often. Smith's quick ball keeps movements flowing, TJs make everything look rushed and disorganised. One of those small things that only the truly great can just do?

Can we keep this thread about the match please
There's a thread for the MacDonald news:

Agreed, that long passage right there was an example for how crucial he was to our play, he touched the ball so many times.

Noticed that, too. Imagine current backline with Nugget at 9.
