@WillieTheWaiter Did you not see Fisher interviewed on TV?
It was raw. She was gasping for breath from both exertion and emotion. Said she had been to hell and back over the paste few years, thanked her supporters and apologised for letting NZ down. Then basically eulogised Dame Lisa. Said she was an inspiration, so hard working, leads the team by her example, a legend. Far from unstinting in her praise.

Congratulations to the USA on topping the medals table.
They'd need to win ten-times as many to catch us in the per capita race.
The Chinese would need 4,000!
That was a great games and not just because we did so well. The French really got behind it - crowds for the cycling road race were amazing!

Very underwhelmed with the Closing Ceremony after what has been an electric Games
Meandered in the middle but the beginning and end were decent. The LA beach looked more enticing for a dip than the Seine I must say.

@canefan I wouldn't be surprised to see her retire earlier than expected maybe even after the Womens Open.
She's always said she won't be playing golf in her 30's. She's now the youngest HOF er ever. What's thye incentive to keep on what clearly for her is an emotional roller coaster.
Doesn't seem that long ago she was a chubby little kid with Mr Magoo specs

Mrs CF said that (about the specs and chubs). Yeah she should feel free to do whatever she wants now, with her legacy assured. My take was that getting to the LPGAHoF was negatively affecting her performance, so now that she has made the cut she can continue to play if she still enjoys it. I expect her to be made Dame in the near future, she has earned the right to ride off into the sunset with the thanks of a grateful nation

good games! watched heaps, and a lot of different stuff (some good, some shit). Stan coverage definitely helped. Great venues. Paris is the best fucking city, love it.
Great results, great races, lots of high achievements.
Some seriously good meme-worthy moments.
Turkish shooter guy
Dude losing the pole vault cause his cock was too big
Ray Gun!!I will miss it. Watching sport every single night really is brilliant.

oh, and looking at these venues really rammed home just how absolute shit 2032 in Brisbane is going to be.

Hmm - how long before Russia is allowed back into the Olympics?
It's funny, I haven't noticed their absence at all. Don't know what that means.
It struck me because I saw you guys in third (an awesome achievement btw, really well done) and I thought to myself "Isn't there normally another big sporting nation up there in the Olympics"

M4L has hit on a point for me that has reoccurred throughout the games: nobody remembers the medal counts, but they remember the moments.
To take an example, Australia won 17 golds in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, but Jai Taurima our long jumper who won silver while smoking between jumps* would be a top 3 memory in people's minds.
So the things I will remember, in no order:
Raygun the breakdancer
Fox sisters in the drink after the Slalom cross racing
Cam McEvoy 50m freestyle win
Surfing big barrels in Tahiti
Dupont winning 7s gold
Curry, Lebron and KD winning it one last time
Evenopoel posing after winning Men's Road Race by 500m*I don't think he did smoke between jumps but the urban legend has incorporated that in the decades since. In another 5-10 years he will have a cig out the side of his mouth mid-jump.

Just wait until we have to pay for it all. Coates in his great wisdom has said spending $2 billion updating the QSAC stadium is the right approach. You know, the thing that's almost never used with no public transport?
He also said "just trust us, we know what we're doing". Which screams this thing requires massive governance and oversight.
-
there is no plan yet because both parties are staying very very quiet until after the election.
The QSAC plan is just the worst, and watching the athletics at SdF rammed that home sans lube.

I'm not a huge Olympics guy (usually just watch the 100/200m) but I enjoyed watching all the highlights and following how NZ was going this year. I watched a lot more than usual as we had the feed running at work, and then when I'd get home I'd watch all the NZ highlights because it was Aussie Aussie Aussie all day on the CH9 feed.
Was especially good this weekend to balance out the 1 out of 3 results for my teams in the rugby and bogan rugby.

One sport nz should do better in is mountain biking. Surely we have the tracks to become world class. I mean the brits are up there.
And itโs another sport sitting down ๐
