Will anyone overtake Richie #148
-

It is interesting in New Zealand because competition for positions probably limits some guys, moreso than injuries I reckon.

You look at our top cap winners - Gregan (139), AAC (116), Sharpe (116) and they didn't have many real peers. If George Smith (111) had stayed onshore, he might have amassed another 40 since 2013.
-

Fizzy undoubtedly would have been with the same tour program these guys had. Everyone except Richie wouldn't be if they played most of their career as an amateur. Fitzy also misses those 1987 Japanese games which were for all intents and purposes tests (on the other side he has those goofy World XV tests so it balances).

Ian Jones might have tickled it too if northern tours were more common at the beginning of his career and the domestic test season was elongated. He was pretty durable. -

Another thing that's pretty impressive about McCaw's record is that he would have started the overwhelming majority of those 148 games. Not too many 15 minute cameos when the opposition have already been flogged.

Started 141 tests. Phenomenal record really -
How many games did he miss when having his concussion issues?

2004 tri nations I think.

Otherwise he did pretty well to avoid serious injury during test season. -

All up we played 185 tests during his career. So he missed 37 in total.

Six in 2004. One English game, four during the Tri Nations and then the one off PI test. The other English test and Argie test he came off the bench which gave him a year between starts after the RWC.

He missed four on the Cantablacks tour and three on sabbatical in 2013. The rest of them are generally games where he was rested like RWC minnow games, tests against predominantly against PI teams at home, the Scotland/Italy game on an EOYT or the odd RWC lead up test.

Other than the headknock I can't find any other games he missed purely due to injury other than the first 2008 Bledisloe and loss in Hamilton to the Boks. I'm sure there are others but I can't see them on list and the 2011 RWC he would missed if it were just an EOYT.
-

I had to turn down tickets to the premiere last night. Gutted I missed the opportunity to meet those two superstars...
-

I reckon his test wins as Captain wont be broken until something amazing happens.

Interestingly I recall and article by someone who shall remain nameless, but his name rhymes with Twattue, saying he should retire when he was experiencing his issues with head knocks, saying NZ needed to move on from him. As you can imagine, the tome was not about his wellbeing, was just an opportunity to have a kick at the NZRU and how they do things.
-

Or we can double the amount of tests we play against Australia every year
6 tests a year vs Cheika and Moore should see Read fly past McCaws record in no time. -

didn't he miss an entire NH tour around then?

I remember Marty started against the frogs (the game where he smashed a frenchman with both arms at the same time) and Wales.. and Dan Braid was backup 7...

can't remember if Ritchie was even there though, that period of my life is getting a bit foggy! All I remember is walking for about 3 hrs after leaving the pub next to stade de france and not being able to find any friggin transport to town.

And Maa being at the The Church in his eye shadow. Seriously wtf was that guy thinking. but i digress.
-

Rested! Along with all of the other cantabs bar a couple.

One of the purported reasons behind the selection was that England at the time had a pretty advanced tracking system setup at Twickenham that they used to micro analyse their opponents. And by selecting a B team Mitchell would prevent England from this analysis. Didn't work of course.
