Awesome race. MB really is is a great sport. The last lap was pure nail biting.

Red Conway in 1960.
A softball catcher (he represented Rotorua at that sport in 1956) Dick Conway broke his finger during a game. The finger set very badly and was obviously going to suffer further damage at work, Dick Conway was a carpenter, or play, either softball or rugby. So, to avoid a problem whilst with the All Blacks in South Africa Conway had the finger amputated.

I do enjoy it when the home town produces a few big wins. Marchand in the 400 IM was insane, and the bloke in the men's K1 was also awesome.
Pool is living up to the usual expectations, some incredible races. Catch the men's 200m free if you can, top three separated by .07 of a second.

@barbarian Leon Marchand is from Toulouse and is currently based in the US so Paris is not his home town.
His parents were Olympic swimmers.

You beat me to it. Some posters pedant meters were running hot. Home town hero sounds much catchier than home country hero. Perhaps we can all agree for the purposes of the Olympics, the terms are interchangeable? 🤷

Olympic men's triathlon postponed due to pollution levels in River Seine
The men's triathlon at the Paris Olympics that was due to take place this afternoon, Australian time, has been postponed because pollution levels in the River Seine remain too high.

The K1 is another excellent event to watch. The French guy was impeccable and destroyed the field with the last run of the day. I’m a bit surprised NZ doesn’t have more top class paddlers.

It's so easy to follow too, and the momentum builds as the run goes on. When it became clear the Frenchie was tracking for gold you could feel the energy ratchet up tenfold.
The women's was great as well. I love Jess Fox and she had a similarly outstanding run after qualifying 8th, then had to death ride the seven others who came to try and knock off her time.

Christchurch isn't Auckland.
Glasgow isn't London.
Perth isn't Sydney.

Yeah, but it's not correct.
You can describe it as a home Olympics for any French person. But it's only a "Hometown" Olympics for Parisians.
Facts will always matter to me more than "what feels good." And it's a great hill to die on.
