NBA Season - now 24/25

Goddam online NBA fandom is populated exclusively with haters. Online discourse is so completely fucked. Absolutely no credit can be given to anyone, or even worse, just make a shit hot take that sounds like a compliment but isn't really.
The game yesterday hadn't even finished and people were rushing to apply the * to the Championship. The simple fact is the Celtics finished 7 wins in front of anyone else for the regular season. And it would have been more if they didn't take the last fortnight off. They were the best team all year, and cruised the playoffs. The front office created an insanely deep team that didn't rely on any one or even two players going big to be able to win. The Mavs threw numbers at Tatum so he just dished off the ball to someone else, and Brown feasted. Defensively they are really really fucking good, and thus the Mavs didn't score anywhere near enough to win (except when the Cs took game 4 off so they could win at home).
The West was very close, but hugely match-up driven. Who knows how the T-Wolves or the Nuggets would have gone in the finals, but they couldn't win at the right time.
Seriously fuck most NBA fans, fuckers don't know what they want. They hate super teams, they hate teams winning without a super star. They just hate. The best team won, and showed that Basketball is still a team sport.

Unfortunately this is the result of the First Take debate show era where there has to be a narrative regardless of what happens.

The Lakers hire JJ Reddick as head coach. No experience, but he strikes me as having a smart basketball mind. LA will hope he will be another player-broadcaster morphing into an excellent HC a-la Steve Kerr. Apparently he has a good relationship with LBJ which matters. But he will need a lot of help because that roster is poo

Giddy for Caruso is a good trade for both. Giddy is young with huge upside potential and better fit with the Bulls team.
Caruso is a veteran presence with huge defence. -
Viva la NBA…
3 of the top 6 picks are from France. and 6 of the top 12 picks are non-American.
I think the pick of the lottery went to the Spurs - Stephon Castle. Castle is a defensive minded swingman with huge upside. Still young having been a freshman on the National Champs, but I think he will be a great fit and team mate for Wemby and Vassell.
Funniest Bball video I saw today, wasn’t at the draft, was this

Spurs sign Chris Paul
Which I HATED at first glance. But it's a cheap one year deal and now I like it. He's gonna average 20 assists just feeding Wemby.

Oh and Paul George to the Sixers.makes the East a bit more interesting too

Playoff P doesn't move the needle for me

It’s an excellent fit for PG I reckon. Can’t stand Embiid, but Maxey is a gun and they’ve been able to resign Oubre.
Some of these contracts are just ridiculous though.
-
And the Bulls can’t unload LaVine. Even throwing in a first round draft pick can’t get a deal done (yet).
One of the worst contracts in the league.

The splash brothers are no more. Klay Thomson has been traded to Dallas
A sign and trade. Interesting that the Lakers offered a longer deal but he didn’t agree.

Longer deal more money? If the money per year was more, perhaps thats what led him to Dallas
-
@canefan Dallas deal is 3 year $50 mill. The Lakers offered 4 year $80 mill.
So Lakers was more money per year, but more drama no doubt and perhaps Klay didn’t want the whole division rivals thing.
Plus if I was a shooter I’d rather play with Luka and Kyrie than Lebron and AD. Look at all the open shots that guys like PJ Washington, Derrick Jones Jnr, Exum and Green got.

If he wants to contend, he's gone to the right place.

No state tax in Texas vs high state tax in Cali
-
@KiwiMurph the Warriors did offer him a 2 year $48 mill extension which would’ve been better even with the state tax difference.
I think there were a number of factors at play and it was more about how the organisation were approaching it. These things rarely work out well when breaking up a dynasty team - 6 Finals in 9 years and 4 Rings to boot. An amazing run.
