Braved the Pink concert crowds near Eden park to get a rigger of Garage Project Fresh March.

Those boys can brew. And fuck I hate crowds, particularly unexpected crowds. See you tomorrow lads

    One for the experienced brewers

Do you put your hops in the wort directly or do you use a bag of some kind? Thinking of using a bag to stop bits floating around and make kegging easier

    @Victor-Meldrew straight into the wort

I figure yuo'll get so much yeast and trub anyway, hop junk doesn't matter.

Hasn't affected my yeast harvesting for future brews.

If you use bag, use a big one - but ask yourself why (existential question I know) 🙂

Too much shit at the bottom does glug things up when you’re bottling…..but the flipside is that bagging the hops you might miss out on the flavour and aroma.

yep, however you do it you need a way to get the good beer off the trub.

I either siphon to a bottling bucket or keg from a Fermzilla, or use the SS Brewtech Brewbucket that has a really nice offtake you can twist to maximise beer return.

    ahhh, beer.

Speaking of which, got hands on some fresh hops and brewed a nectaron fresh hopped hazy last week with my mate. It's tasting and smelling brilliant already, even without the 500g of dried nectaron we're dry hopping with 🙂

Round two riwaka arrives tomorrow ... an IPA I expect

    Munton's Flagship Hazy IPA.

Can report it's as good as the critics say it it. Outstanding drop and better than St Ives Brewery Slipway IPA.

Just got my next four brews paying particular attention to the upcoming change in seasons.

Spiced Belgian Dubbel, Bavarian Wheat ( ok probably more of a Summer drop but fuck it ), Kveik IPA and Miners Stout.

@Victor-Meldrew they had some Muntons in stock funnily enough, will try some next time I go which will be a couple of months. Interested in your thoughts…..anything different than other kits ?

Life got in the way a bit and my Riwaka Pale ale spent a month in the fermenter but still tasted fine. Lovely solid beer.

Have only tried this one, TBH. Have an IPA from their Hand Crafted range (one below the Hazy IPA) on the go so will report back

Not as many Fresh Hops about this year although I know some breweries are holding them back.

Hop Fed's Green Limousine is the best of those I've tasted. Would take it for a spin any time. Delivers what it says on the label but without being over-powering with a nice mouth feel and lingering hazy finish. Moreish in the extreme

@dogmeat I tried one of Double Vision's at the Taranaki Beer Festival - it was excellent. Favourite beer of the day.
Unfortunately - I can't remember which one it was (they've got three this year). I guess I'll need to go buy some to figure it out.

I know you’re the man to turn to when it comes to Movie reviews……any chance you can give us a run down on the Beer fest ? That’s one that I’d love to do a roadie to one of these days….

    Thanks in advance.

It was a while ago... and I was drunk... and I'm a little drunk now... so... fuck it? I'll give it a go?
Not sure how to review it other than - it's what it says on the tin.
It's a beer festival - in Taranaki. Taranaki is a prick of a place to get to - so fuck all breweries bother to attend.
So - you get a mini-Beervana - with a few local breweries that you wouldn't get anywhere else - and not many of the 'bigger' breweries that you get at all the other things like this.
Maybe 18 beer stalls? 7 or 8 food stalls.
Oh - and shit - nearly forgot... they set up a professional wrestling ring in the hall as entertainment. C-grade pro-wrestling going on in the background... how the fuck did I nearly forget that?
The more I think about it - the more I highly recommend. Taranaki breweries that would never go to Beervana or even Hamilton's Great Beer Festival... and C-grade rasslin'. A metric fuck-tonne of pricks wearing Taranaki-Hardcore clothing. Taranaki in a nutshell.

OK. The IPA from the Hand Crafted range is OK but not in the same league as their top range. I have their West Coast IPA brewing and will report back in a month. 7% alcohol with this beastie.

I’ve just read the small print on my Belgian dubbel and realised I’ve brewed using liquid malt extract which they don’t recommend.

Even master brewers have their off days.

Proof will be in how it tastes I guess which I’ll find out in a few weeks but I thought this brewing shit was supposed to be easy ?

Having a week in Holland. Loving it, but the beer is bloody awful. Tried all sorts but all tastes the same - close to zero.
