AFL 2024

well well, Andrew Wilkie really doesn't want a new AFL stadium in Tasmania does he?
Last night, he stood up in Parliament, and went "whack!" at the AFL via the Melbourne Demons, all around cocain.
We all know the shitstorm surrounding the Demons, the rumours around Goodwin, then Joel Smith for trafficking coke, and the league seemed to just hope that all slid away.
Well, that's not likely to happen now, after Wilkie made some pretty hard core allegations
- private, unreported pre-game testing of players for drugs, with any failures being omitted for the weekend with "injuries" (very very bad weekend for a player to be a late out)
- AFL house ignoring aired concerns around the drug use of the Demons coach
- AFL house getting ride of the Melbourne president when he wanted to expand drug testing to all levels of his club (wilkie made it sound like to AFL level as well)
I don't really know what to make of the whole deal, but it's real bit of bad PR that the AFL executive will have to front up and explain, and that could get juicy.

Gather Round, or, as i like to call it, "We are so fucking back"
Adelaide lost, again
Friday was belting city as expected for North, but less expected for Essendon
West Coast put up a fight against Sydney
Carlton got the most umpire-assisted win in history
Geelong v Dogs was a beauty.
Gold Coast are so good, but just couldn't get over the early season leading GWS
St Kilda just beat Richmond, and Collingwood held off the HawksGWS lead the way, and look good
Melbourne are 2nd and probably better than i thought
Sydney are good, but WTF happened over Easter
Fuck Carlton (they are unbeaten and going well)
Geelong will not die, are better than last year, and have some guys to come back
Port and Freo look pretty good.
Bulldogs have elite talent but a poor bottom 8 or so players.St Kilda and Essendon look nicely placed to just miss finals
Last year's Grand Finalists are not back yet.
Richmond have banana skin game written all over them this yearFour teams haven't won in the first month, and look set for loooong years.
No real favourite emerged yet, too early, but it looks pretty open between about 8 teams
-
bloody richmond stopped me getting a clean sweep....so hard to tip this year!
-
crazy round
Lions belted Melbourne, score hugely flattered the Dees with some junk time goals. Best i have seen the Lions tackle for years. Considered an upset, especially by the victorian focused Ch7 team (suffer in your jocks flogs).
Then Essendon, who have looked terrible, beat the Dogs, who were showing signs of life.
GWS were smacking the Saints as expected, but then won by a point
Adelaide beat Carlton. WTF?
GC smacking the Hawks pretty much expected
Port and Freo played out a close but pretty dire game
Geelong did what is expected to north
And then fucking West Coast won.Either lots of teams are good, or no one is. I can't quite work it out yet.

AFL Fans: That touched goal ruined our season!!! that should never happen in the modern age with all the available technology!! this is an absolut disgrace and further proof AFL House hates my club
Also AFL fans: The goal reviews are out of control and destroying the flow of the game. Why do we have so many? AFL House hates the game.
This is what you get when you listen to the whingers
I'm consistent. Across all sports. Video replay technology has done nothing for any of the games i like that it has been brought in for. And it hasn't decreased whinging, cries of conspiracy or bias, all its done is shift it from the guy on the field to the guy in the booth.
Fuck all of it off. -
@mariner4life long pre-season this year

Fuck all of it off. With you here. 100%. Perfection in officiating is unattainable*, and any attempt to try and move closer has been unsuccessful.
AFL is a chaotic sport that is almost impossible to officiate. The rules are greyer than grey (none moreso than holding the ball), and umpires have to watch a million things going at warp speed. I don't blame the goal umpires for being gun shy after what happened in Adelaide.
One minute Richo is saying 'if you've got the technology, use it', and the next he's asking umpires to 'just get on with the game'. They can't win.
*Unless your sport involves black-and-white, in-or-out calls like tennis and to some extent cricket.

i don't trust hawkeye
No, neither. But I trust hotspot, snicko and side cameras to adjudicate on runouts.

i hate footy again.
Lol at St Kilda
Collingwood are back
Carlton impressive in running over the Giants
Fuck Brisbane, fuck our spud talls. Fuck our inability to change styles when required. We're going to nowhere this season.
West Coast smashing Freo is hilarious. Suddenly there is hope at the Eagles
Sydney got themselves back on track, and the GC suffered a set back
And the West Coast result makes North's smashing look even worse. North might be fucked forever, because i imagine there will be compromised drafts for Tassie coming up, and North are absolute shit with no hopeEssendon and the Dogs are in the 8 at the moment, but i expect both to fall out, the other 6 ca start thinking about September.
St Kilda, West Coast, Adelaide, Richmond, Hawthorn, North Melbourne are already looking towards next year after 6 games.
The only reason Brisbane aren't joining that list is, We've played Carlton, Freo, Collingwood, Melbourne and Geelong already, we must be due the soft part of the draw. But we're only a week or two from writing everything off for the year. Terrible fucking season of terrible fucking performances. -

I'd celebrate, but it's only North Melbourne.
