Yeah - I was thinking that too. The Aussie was getting good height above the bar on some of her earlier jumps even though she'd never done 4.85 - I was thinking she could fluke it.

Some good luck there with the big favorites crashing out - to offset a few bits of bad luck here and there.

Great result - well done!

Yeah the Jamaicans were challenged, neck and neck with Japan and USA at the last change. Everyone else was close, too.

Bolt put 5+ metres on them at the finish

    Oh shit. Why was that?

Just watched modern pentathlon with Chloe Esposito. Fucking hell she started in 7th, with a 45 second handicap. And won by nearly as much! Missed one shot in the required 20.

Good to see that the Halberg judges made an astute choice when choosing Eliza McCartney as the Emerging talent winner.

I read that she is our youngest female Olympic medallist too. Well done girl!

My theory is Swisse Vitamins - when Ricky Ponting started with them, his career turned to shit. Bieber O'Connor too.

Campbell girls are in ads here for Swisse. So is the high jump girl who missed the final, and a few others.

Fucking Swisse. Don't go near that shit!

We had that theory in NZ many years ago with Fresh Up. Geoff Howarth and John Walker are two that spring to mind when they started advertising the stuff went to shit.

So fucking stoked for Eliza McCartney. Considering this was supposed to be a tester run for Tokyo cos she's just a kid, phenomenal result.

I suspect nerves might have got to her a wee bit once she hit her PB - lost her run up - but sky's the limit now. When she nailed the pole position and body tuck, she was so easily clearing it. That national record of 4.80 ain't going to stand long.

    Eliza.

The good news: you've just won an Olympic bronze medal.

The bad news: you've just bought yourself a whole HEAP of expectation from the whole country.

Onya.

My favorite moment of the games so far.
