Black Caps v Australia

Such is the infrequency of Australia's Test tours to their closest neighbours, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who both debuted in 2011 and have played a combined total of 147 matches, have never played a Test match in New Zealand.
Here's the full list of Tests between the countries: Aus v NZ Tests
Thats something that has never really changed, infrequency playing tests vs Australia.
Despite being only a few hours by plane away.
Oz have always prioritized series against England, India and pretty much everyone else but us.
Was understandable when we were weak but given we made 2 ODI WC finals in a row and won the first WTC you would think we could ask for more tests/ODI's...but no. -

They gave us a 3 test series, including the boxing day test. And we shat the bed.
It's hard to tour Aus. Really hard. Almost as hard as India.
-
They also toured in 2016 and we went there at the end of 2015 and they beat us 2-0 in both series, effectively losing the 5 tests that we played them in 2015/16 4-0.

@Virgil surely Phillips gets selected before Hairy Nipples.
Of course. Nicholls isn't even in the squad (last I knew, unless he's come in as cover for Conway's injury)

Southee fails in these 2 tests he might be looking at a Wagner retirement in the near future.
His wkt taking ability has fallen off a cliff,I can see Australia dinning out on the NZ attack,This tour is about 3 years too late for our bowling attack.
-
Wagner, Nicholls and Southee are the ones that needed to go from the blackcaps test team at the start of the summer.
Only Southee left.
The young players that have come in after belatedly getting an opportunity (Phillips, Ravindra, O'Rourke) have done well.
I don't think Southee is in the top 2 NZ new-ball bowlers anymore.
I don't think there is another 10 year career guy waiting in the wings, like the other 3 already mentioned above, ready to replace Southee seamlessly. But there are players who should or could be given a go. Who should go alright in NZ conditions, as the minimum.
I can watch domestics and say, yeah I think this new ball bowler X is better than current Southee .... but what I can't easily form an opinion on is how good would they be in their 3rd spell of the day in Dhaka or Colombo etc

Yeah I agree.

Who becomes captain if Southee is not good enough to keep his spot?
Kylo Ren comes back from the wilderness.
But yeah. Sigh. Probably Scott K.
Or a young tyro, tall fast and not already picked. I don't know who that is after WOR

The only question for the playing 11 is Santner vs Kuggelin.
No way.
he shouldn’t be anywhere near a test team…..and thats just judging him on what he’s done on the field.

So what are we thinking the side look like tomorrow
1.Latham
2.Young
3.Williamson
4.Ravindra
5.Mitchell
6.Nicholls/Phillips
7.Blundell
8.Santner
9.Henry
10.Southee
11.O'RourkeJettison Nicholls and I reckon that’s 100%.
MASSIVE chance for Young to make or break it. I’m a fan so hoping for the former.
Loads riding on KWs shoulders. Absolutely nothing new here.
Despite the massive ton vs SA I’m not convinced about Ravindra yet. Lots of our batsmen have started with a hiss and a roar and fizzled out.
Hoping Mitchell can continue the fine form.
Let’s see if Blundell remembers he can actually bat. High score of 17 not out in his last 10 innings.
Philips and Santner are still somewhat bits and pieces, let’s hope they add up.
That pace attack isn’t gonna scare oz too much overall.
