Chiefs v Crusaders

That game felt like Super Rugby of old. Well played by both teams.
-
Can't see Lio-Willie being kept out of the starting 15 for too long. Workhorse for the Crusaders in the 2nd-half.
-
@Old-Samurai-Jack agreed, Gardiner was rubbish in that first half.
-
Bring back Razor
Massive shift from the old dog, Franks.

Good win, will take it. Was 24-10 when I left for work, and 27-22 when I got in. Shitty commute.
But chiefs got it together at the end against the All Black team of 2015. Nice to see them come back and close it out.
Decent level for first game of the tournament! Not much post-summer rust.

be better having Crotty at 12 and one if them outside him.
McLeod might be a better winger.
Havili is back soon too (next week?). I’d be tempted to find room for him and Crotty somehow
Havili to fullback, Crotty 12, McLeod 13, Fihaki wing, Aumua and Springer to the bench.

@Machpants same, i thought Reihanas first start of Super Rugby level has been great. First game of the season amd hes performed well. Doesnt help when he has big shoes to fill
He seemed cumbersome at times but never got charged down or anything did he? Looked right at home.

@Bones yea aside from that audacious play from his 50-22, played within himself, has plenty more to give, and certainly learn from.
Huge ask for either him or Kemara to step into Moungas boots as starters in the opening hit out, sink or swim time.

The fact he didn't sink to me says quite a bit. He no doubt has gears to his game, and now has the shirt for the time being.

I thought I would watch a replay before commenting. This was a game where the team that controlled possession dominated the game. The Chiefs had all the momentum in the 1st half, whereas the Crusaders turned that around in the 2nd half. Happy with the win.
From a Chiefs perspective, the loss of DMac was huge. It was noticeable how ineffective Ioane's kicking was in comparison and that led to two Crusaders tries. Ioane's strength is his running. I still don't see Boshier as a 7 as he didn't put any pressure on at the breakdown. It will be interesting to see his tackle stats. Parker should have come on earlier. Both locks were busy, and Slater's throwing was good (usually a weakness). ENS and Tupaea were the pick of the backs for me. Narawa was certainly missed to provide more power from deep. LCF tries hard but needs space to operate.
It was ironic that the Crusaders did a SA by putting Franks back on the field to improve the scrum, and then Moody concedes the penalty. Aumua was as anonymous as I thought he was at the game.

Made 9 missed 2, 0 dominant
Only Chiefs player with more tackles was Jacobson with 10
He had 19 ruck arrivals (5th best Chiefs). Jacobson had 31
I have the full opta stats from the game if you want to know anything else
