Sounds like some big crowds expected.

That’s what happens when it’s not Bangladesh or Sri Lanka I guess

Don't worry! After the first couple of merciless floggings the enthusiasm will die down.

Nah, the Aussies will put up a bit of a fight. I don't think we will flog them.

Australia have beaten us 34 tests to 8 ( not counting draws, should be 9 if they gave McDermott out back in the 80s ). There will definitely be complacency there. Based on that a 2-0 flogging and double figures is a certainty.

I don't disagree - but the article was about crowds at the Cake Tin. You can see the attraction of T20 for administrators; it's a license to print money. They just suck in comparison to a good Test match.

Big crowds go to Taylor Swift concerts too.

But seriously, 20/20 is good fun but it’s the test series I’m most interested in. I’m such a traditionalist.

100% but the 20/20 is always a consolation compared to the real stuff

Was at the Basin the last time they toured. Nathan bloody Lyon snaffled a bunch o'wickets. Really annoying, but a damn good day out

Not much chat on here before the game.

TAB has us at $2.5, Aus around $1.5. Possibly good money backing Australia?

Not much chat because it's a T20. I've been to many sold out T20s at Eden Park, and more than 90% of the crowd doesn't actually care about the result, they are just there to drink and have a good time. Which is absolutely fine as it's great fun, but the result itself is pretty meaningless to cricket fans.

@No-Quarter for the most part you're probably right but this is Aussie, any win over Aussie is satisfying.

@Canes4life my priority on Friday is

T20 (as long as it's good)
    India England (first day)
Rugby (whoever's on - but probably won't watch)

I don't even know who some of those Aussies are. I don't watch the BBL.

I could care less about the hit and giggle games...at least ODis have some subtlety and tactical nuances involved. But for me It's all about test Cricket, to the point I just deleted every single piece of t20 and ODI footage I've collected since 2004 - I'll never watch them whereas Test match stuff - I could watch every one of Kane's test 100s again and gain along with McCullum's 302/Roscoe's 290 and not be jaded

Pretty much agree with all of this albeit not quite so vehemently. It can be fun to watch and I do appreciate T20 for the skills that players take into the test arena, particularly some of the fielding and increased scoring rates in test cricket has to be a good thing too.

But there’s some really bog standard first class players with ordinary records made to look really good because they’re there for a good time and not a long time.
