Be interesting to see the approach tomorrow. I think we'll see a similar approach to the third session today in session one tomorrow, and then looking to accelerate in sessions two and three with an eye to getting about an hour or so at the South Africans before stumps. With Santner as the 4th bowler we bat ludicrously deep (Phillips at 7, Southee at 11) so if we can resume our dominance tomorrow morning we're very well positioned to be super aggressive.

I am sure we will be pushing the scoring rate tomorrow after the first hour. As has been mentioned we bat really deep and can afford to take some risks. Tomorrow and day 3 will probably be the best days to bat so I reckon we should make the most of it. In an ideal world declaring as Cyclops says about drinks on session 3 on 550-600.

So much batting still to come and I’d love one of these guys to get at least a double ton.

This SA team is as green as the Hulk, we need to be ruthless and make them pay.

Similar weather to yesterday - light-ish breeze and looks like being a hot afternoon. A good time up up the run rate and cook them in the field before bowling.

Are these bowlers really South Africa's "B" team - or is there another layer between them and Rabada and Co?

You look at what Australia can roll out behind Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood and it's as good as we can field as first string, so I was a bit surprised the SA "B" attack isn't more fearsome. I was expecting more height and bounce - and more pace.

Moreki has a bit about him. de Swart is pretty much Gavin Larsen. Paterson - a more accurate Corey Anderson. Olivier - Daryl Tuffey?

Thought SA's bowling was tidy yesterday but noticeably toothless once the pitch flattened out. Pretty much dobbly pace for the most part. They really needed to make more inroads in the first 3 hours of play but I thought they were just a tad short of the right length - meant they pinned down the scoring but didn't bring the batters forward often enough. As usual Kane looked hopelessly out of form at times but also as usual, he worked through it and got his ton. Ravindra was giving a lesson in hitting the ball hard and straight to the fielder for quite a long time but it must have helped him to have Kane there talking him through it.

A wicket first ball in your first test is what dreams are made of but fuck all since then…..also an extremely bog standard first class record that would barely get him a game for NZ B.

SA have provided some absolutely world class pace bowlers since their readmission ( and before that, loads of guys who never got to play ) but I don’t think he has that kind of pedigree.

Olivier and Paterson look excellent though according to cricinfo stats.

Tidy but toothless sounds about right. They will have a chance with the new ball this morning and need to make the most of it, otherwise it could be a long hot day in the field.

That’s clearly bounced, so why do they need so many bloody replays?

Definitely bounced. I didn't think much of the quality of that side on camera view, so I think I'd have had an extra look there too.

    Not even close to B.

It's hard to rank. But probably around D.

Batting is closer to B. As in it has 2 out of 6 are actual test X1. Plus Hamza who would be a genuine B.

Or, even better, both of them, by preferably about around the drinks break in the afternoon session.

@Gunner trying to up the rate and loft if over mid on but the ball just moved out enough to slice it.

We just need Rachin to dig in and anchor while others up the ante around him.

I’m pretty confident in saying I think Ravindra is going to go on and surpass Williamson and be our best batsman.

Little Kane really does now dine - of right - at the very top table of test batsmen.

Unless Bradman wants to eat at a little desk on his own.

When Kane was Rachin's age. He already had 7 test centuries, 2300 test runs at an average of 40.

yeah there’s some absolute bullshit there. Not saying Ravindra won’t develop into a fine player but he’s flogging a minnow in his backyard, let’s be honest.
