initial reports are it will be Smith or Green
Green has never opened I can not see that happening he will play in the middle order.
Smith I hope so he will fail in NZ and England opening,He has no technique to combat the early movement with the red ball.
4 slips in cya latter Smith. -
Smooth brained Michael Clarke reckons Smith opening means he can go after Brian Lara's 400 because he has more time...

Michael Clarke is and always has been a major selfish arrogant fluffybunny.

people always tell me what a great captain he was, but i have never heard anything even remotely insightful come out of his mouth.

He is so far up himself he has built a Penthouse up his arse so he can wallow even more in his self importance.

I reckon Smith would dominate in NZ. We are so far in decline. Even if our playing 11 weren't almost all in a mass simultaneous decline, that annoying prick would still probably would find a way to ruin my cricket and bat all day.
Not as an opener he won’t.
But he is not going to be moved from 4 so will probably score plenty. -
My post is half doom-mongering about Australia dominating regardless, part lamenting our decline with no re-newal imminent, and part moaning that Smith annoys me.
Not really a serious post on his suitability to open.
But, he'll be fine. He'll be better than Joe Burns, and he crushed us. When we were good.

Nope Smith will fail as an opener .
That is why Cricket Australia will not use him as an opener they know it too. -
That LB in th3 Big Bash is fucking bullshit. Jordan stepped across yes, but according to hawkeye the ball was going to make a 45 degree turn when it hit the ground. That was going down leg
-
@Duluth Pros:
- Short ball will be stowed (as you mentioned). Good point.
- Less ultra-defensive fields for Smith to contend with - these lower his scoring opportunities. The new ball needs slips and gullies. More gaps in front of square.
- His ticks (adjusting his gear between each delivery and noticing a postage stamp extremely wide of long on) will annoy the fresh/ready-to-go new ball bowlers.
Cons:
- Short term selection (2 or 3 years max);
- Slow strike rate. However, the ultra-defensive fields set for him probably had something to do with it.
- LBW candidate.

Short ball would not be stowed as the new ball bowlers are fresher and the ball is hard, much better for bowling short deliveries.And Smith is not a fan of the ball bowled at his badge,Not a pro - Less ultra-defensive fields for Smith to contend with - these lower his scoring opportunities. Yes that is the reason we have slips with a new ball we want the batsmen playing straight to a moving ball,Again Smiths technique is flawed to a moving delivery because of the arc his bat travels through these days, and his hands coming free to often, Not a pro - His ticks (adjusting his gear between each delivery and noticing a postage stamp extremely wide of long on) will annoy the fresh/ready-to-go new ball bowlers.
WHAT He faces the same opening bowlers batting at no.4 just with an older ball,I have not heard or seen any bowlers getting annoyed before.We are talking about professional bowlers.That is silly

First, it's Michael Vaughan, who appears to be taking over the Mark Nicholas job of "pom fellating Aus cricketers for a buck".
Second, greatest is so much more than box score. Dennis Lillee is a prime example. Record will end up probably the same, but one is a beloved iconic figure, the other is one of the more vanilla players going around even in this sanitised era.
Cummins is fucking good, but to be great you need to capture the imagination.But even if we go to box score, come on. He's got 250 wickets, and he's 30. He's not getting bulk wickets like McGrath (who already has a better average, so he'll beat him on total and average at career end), in fact there is no guarantee he even catches Starc (basically a hundred ahead).
Warne has him fucked in all ways

Yeah no contest Warne light years ahead of Cummins as great.
Cummins is a really good player but not in Warnes league. -

Massive call.
In no particular order Ricky Ponting, Steve Smith, Glenn McGrath and Dennis Lillee say hi.
Steve Waugh and Allan Border grumble some kind of greeting too
Mark Waugh looks up disinterestedly and goes off to bet on a horse
LOL
In a decade people will struggle to remember his name.

@antipodean who's?
In all seriousness though I find him forgettable now.
