@SouthernMann bloody delightful watching that performance. Firebirds continue to break records this season.

He is right though. Just bloody embrassing
Population and funding starting to show through for both Volts and Highlanders unfortunately. They've won the comp twice, which is a bloody good effort, but the current crop don't look good
Plenty of talent have come out of the province. We screwed around Mike Bracewell. Nathan Smith is a good Otago lad who fled for opportunities. Mike Rae left for Canterbury. Same with Rippon. Decent players, no continuity

An absolute joke of a performance by Otago in the Super Smash. 30-8 in the 9th over
It's no fun supporting the Volts.
Yeah really shithouse aye. There are good players there. A fair bit of potential, just no one to string it together

It's going to be embarrassing if we lose.

It’s ok, Henry Nicholls is at home, we’ll be fine

Here’s one stat I found quite amazing.
NZ have NEVER beaten SA in a test series.
As in never, ever, EVER !
We’ve beaten everyone else at least once ( apart from teams like Ireland and Afghanistan due to not playing them )
12 series since readmission, first in 94/95. You’d think we might have snuck a couple at least. Five series prior to that, probably no surprise they cleaned us up in those days ( although an impressive 2-2 draw from 61/62 was a great effort )
If only Hadlee got a chance to hurl some immaculate line and length and seam movement at them back in the 80s…..sigh.

@MN5 We'll never know how good SA would have been if they weren't banned from international cricket in the 70s/80s. Some great players during that period who never got to play international cricket.
Absolutely, this guy would have definitely made it five great all rounders of the 80s
Excellent bowling average but not a huge amount of wickets for the amount of matches.
Probably a better bat than Imran, Beefy, Kapil or Paddles though. The latter spoke really highly of him in his book.

From this article about review of 2023. A stat that jumped out at me:
New Zealand continued to do New Zealand things - with or without Kane Williamson, who featured in only 14 of their 61 internationals in 2023.
Although, later in article when the list the results records. It is 'only' 58 matches , not 61.
-
@African-Monkey That's probably a good thing, bc that Transvaal team of the 80s contained some of the most insufferable players in the history of cricket (Clive Rice, Ray Jennings) who viewed themselves as the best in world even they never played OZ and WI sides.

To much delight, the Firebirds notched up another win against the Northern Brave last night to extend their lead at the top of the Super Smash table. They will only get stronger with the return of the ‘Beast’ Michael Bracewell who will want to push for BC selection again. He’s apparently up for selection against Auckland on Thursday.
Hoping Otago notch up a win against the Cantabs today.

@Canes4life
Matt Henry due back for a run this game or the next.
Tom Latham and Kyle Jamieson due back as well for Canterbury. -

@Punch_up In fairness, they would have killed those Aussie sides of the 80s as they were at their weakest then.
How they would have fares against the Windies of the 80s will always remain one of Cricket's great mysteries.
Yeah it must be said Paddles might have struggled to get 15 wickets against a side captained by S Waugh or Ponting. He’d probably probably have to settle for 12 or so….
