That was coming like a car crash for the final six minutes. The Germans pulled their keeper and we simply couldn't clear the ball - wave after wave of attacks - and the one time we got up their end we got a free hit and we got a man binned for time wasting.

Hate to use the "c" word but that was up there with the worst. I suppose those Germans grew up watching replays of Manchester United beating Bayern Munich in injury time!

Worst of all - the semi would have been against 8th ranked Argentina, so quite winnable to play in the gold medal match.

That will leave a scar. Sometimes greatness beckons but it's not easy to answer the call -

Stayed up till 3:30am here in SA to watch the races. Was worth it.
-

Reserve's intervention to stop Inverdale in his tracks and stop him ambushing Dysdale before NZ media had first crack was brilliant to watch. If Sir Steve want already a knight, I'd be starting a petition to have him knighted.

Inverdale was a cockhole in the pairs as well, a few times throughout the race just saying to ignore the kiwis. -

Anyone know how the sailing medal races work? I think I remember reading that the top ten from each event qualify for them, is that right? So our Nacra 17 Mixed pair have already qualified for the medal race on Wednesday?

Points scored in heat races are carried forward and the top ten (in this case the lowest points scorers!) race off in the medal race which carries double points. These are then added to the previous points totals to determine the overall winner.
-

Yes. Carry your points from prelims (including disregarding your worst result) then medal race counts double. Add to prelim points. Lowest score wins.

According to nzherald Meech just has to be within 5 places of the 3 boats behind him to medal. Unlikely to catch the guy in gold. Apparently. -
Sorry Higgybaby you had that covered already.

This must be causing havoc to the all important medals per capita table:

Not fussed about 6.

I'll take 3. Any more is a bonus.

Even 2 is pretty good.

Discounting LA (always an asterisk with the absence of the commies) prior to London the BEST we'd done was 3.

Sydney I think we had a grand total of 4 medals (Waddell and 3 bronze).

I would have loved Val to add another gold but she was beaten by the most amazing piece of sport.

The others were chances only. Not really out and out favourites.

Let's celebrate how good we're doing - whilst hoping for more. -

Great start to the hockey. An infamous 2-0 scoreline, with a beauty of a goal of the 2nd penalty corner. Hopefully we can go on to victory.
