Incredible final last night. This leg the highlight on an evening full of highlights.
Mardle, the commentator, had to step away from the mic as he blew his voice up.
This is just unreal sports entertainment.
One of the best passages of play in any sport I’ve seen
And Smith’s handshake when MVG just missed was all class

I love the darts.
Still in my top five of sports I actually watch on TV
One of those events/sports that you can really enjoy from afar and the crowd add a lot of atmosphere.
I’d never go to the Ally Pally though. Would be like the airport Weatherspoons at holiday time. I saw enough of the afters on the tubes to tell me that it’s not a place for me.I would absolutely lose my mind after the tenth rendition of "Stand up if you love the darts".

I went a couple of times when I was younger. It was an incredible day out, huge laughs, huge atmosphere, huge banter. Just fantastic. Crowd is actually a huge mix of posh / trash.
Now, not so much interest. Do enjoy it on the telly though.
Related story - Once of my dutch colleagues is a very hot 27 year old and she was telling me she came over for it with her stepfather a couple of years ago and and said it was her best day of the year! Was pretty surprised to hear that.

I’m in absolute awe of anyone who can go to the board just nine times in a game of 501…….the precision to do it time and time again is incredible. Not only that but the quick adjustment to go for a triple 19 if the 20 isn’t on.
Watching these guys makes me realise how truly shit I am at darts. Luckily everyone who has visited so far is even worse.
It is such good fun to play. LOVE my darts !

This guy looks over 30….not 16 !!!!!!! His facial hair and the beginnings of a combover are incredible.
Amazing effort, I’ll watch his career with interest.

Been a brilliant tournament
Great matches yesterday

Darts is genuinely right up there in terms of favourite sports to watch. Love it. ( and as a player am still shit and am still in awe of those who are genuinely good )

He must be part Greek with facial hair like that at that age.
As the article states his darts physique is absolutely on point too.
However, enough about his appearance……in one sense you can argue Darts isn’t a sport ( I remember Martin Johnson on TV arguing that it is and agreeing with his viewpoint ) but to consistently hit the target under lights, pressure etc is pretty fucken extraordinary. To be this good at such a young age,…..wow. This kid could stay at the top for over 40 years ! The man he just beat is 56 years old after all.
( spoken as someone who has yet to throw a 180 despite about 15 years playing on and off….mainly off, but still ! )

Darts should definitely be in the Olympics
It strikes me as one of those sports that would have a big following in the former British empire and not much elsewhere. Like snooker, lawn bowls, cricket, netball etc. Would be a hard Olympics sell especially as I think you have to replace a sport these days not add to the number.

27 countries represented at the 2024 World Darts Championship. It was as high as 31 in 2022.
Those numbers would drop to 24 and 28 respectively if there was a combined GB team.
The 2024 World Cup of Darts will take place from June 27-30 at the Eissporthalle, Frankfurt, with 40 nations - each represented by two players - battling it out in the group and knockout stage matches.
