He lost it after Cus D’amato died.

Even if cus was younger/ healthier..alive mike would have ended up following the same path. Maybe he would have stayed disciplined a few more years so had a longer peak but Don king ,cocaine and money motivated ladies would have still gotten hold of him. He is an addict. Cus made him a training addict but that would have worn thin.
Amazing life story though. This age of self promotion through social media has robbed us of the characters in boxing - I have tired of fury and his knobhead dad of late but his story is a throwback in alot of ways.

I think he seems to be in a pretty good space now ( relatively speaking )

His legacy is debatable but he’s without a doubt the most compelling and fascinating sportsman I can think of.

I did a double take when I read "sportsman." Technically I guess he was but I never thought of sport when I watched him box, it was so savagely primordial.

Yeah but my word he got people watching didn’t he ?

But as others have said once the fear factor wasn’t there and his opponents had more reach/skill/heart he was definitely beatable.

Oh yeah I agree with all of the above. If you watch him against Lennox there is a moment you can see he knows he aint' going to win it and he just waits for the inevitable.

….and most boxing experts will tell you even at his ( Tysons ) best he would not have been able to beat Lewis. Like Holyfield ( who also beat him ) Lewis never came close to getting the attention that Tyson at his peak got though. Probably a bit “boring” in comparison.

David benevidoz v Andrade tomorrow, might be an interesting fight .We know about benevidoz power but Andrade has an awkward style

@kiwiinmelb Benavidez batters Andrade. Way too big for him. Andrade will make things tricky early on fighting southpaw, but once Benavidez sorts out the range, he'll take over mid rounds and stop him around the 9th I feel.

@kidcalder Cameron to do her again I feel. Taylor's had a great career, but is in decline and going up a weight class seemed a step too far the last time they fought.

@kidcalder Well what do I know haha. Missed the fight but sounds like it was awesome.

Wouldn't surprise me if there was a 3rd fight between them.

Great fight and yes a third sounds like it will happen at Croke Park possibly 80-90,000 capacity
Cameron maybe panicked after her head got cut clash of heads early- very deep cut.
Katie fast combos Cameron def bigger puncher 3rd fight will be 50/50 as well

Yeah good fight ,Cameron had the heavier punches but Katie’s sheer will got her home , she just doesn’t quit .

Good card on now with the benevidoz v Andrade fight

On free to air in aus for those interested, Foxtel/kayo

Was thinking about it after the fight , has there been a bigger punching fighter at 168 than Benevidoz ?

at 26 he just seems to be getting stronger

@kiwiinmelb Don't know how he keeps making 168 tbh. He'd probably make CW comfortably.

He's a bit of a weight bully, but yeah, he sure can bang. I can see why Canelo wants no part of him.

    Yeah he is a monster

I suspect from interviews , his goal is to win titles at 168 again , then go up ,

he has mentioned how he would like to fight Bivol and Bieterbiev , he could comfortably add more muscle to that upper frame

Yeah its a dangerous fight for Canelo , particularly that there are signs he is in decline skills wise, i dont believe he is as sharp defensively as he once was , he reguarly finishes fights looking banged up now
