Gotta love the quality and effort of the Dutch ground fielding. Every run counts

Previous record in an ODI CWC was 49 balls.

so this CWC has now pretty much taken shape.

India favourites. South Africa and Australia now flying. We're looking super likely for the semis because everyone from 5 down looks a bit shit

Our record propped up by playing 4 games against the ordinary sides. Next two tells us if we are a chance or making up the numbers

It still staggers me that a country that produced names like Lara, Richards, Marshall, Ambrose, Sobers, the three Ws, Garner, Holding etc isn’t in this tournament.

Fuck that must be depressing for the legends I’ve listed above…..

Aussie sorted out their NRR too. 399 v 90 in that last game

Good to see a couple of the remaining NZ games start at 6pm nzt instead of 9:30pm

England flew out of the blocks with a good start (apart from a missed lbw first ball), but they've fallen into a hole.

Bairstow ran out Root (well, probably both culpable), then got himself out shortly after - and now Butler has gone cheaply. 77/4 and in some trouble (Malan was first out).

England are having an absolute mare in this tournament. Time to ditch the 100 and start playing more domestic 50 over Cricket again?

Well we know who really should've won the last world cup. Fucking abysmal holders.

Whole tournament has been a joke from England. Too many old players who just don’t care that much about this tournament, poor captain without the personality to repeat Morgan’s approach.

Interesting stats on the Wisden podcast, in the 4 years to 2019 we played something like 85+ games of ODI cricket, in the four years to this one, 44. We also used 10 more players in this cycle as our “best players” were rested. We focussed on T20, and won that last year, we haven’t taken ODIs seriously we deserve everything we’re currently getting

4 years to late for us though.

    Sigh.

This part is not a big deal as it has been the same for everyone:

in the 4 years to 2019 we played something like 85+ games of ODI cricket, in the four years to this one, 44.

I looked that up in statsguru query yesterday, and everyone has pretty much played 35ish to 45ish in last 4 years except India who have played 60 odd. (I was looking at this as I was interested in how Australia was effected as they cancelled 2 of their ODI series in that cycle, and interested in India as many on this thread accusing them of trying to kill the ODI world cup).

This other part is definitely very relevant:

We also used 10 more players in this cycle as our “best players” were rested.

I was listening to podcast this morning (Final Word), and guy pointed out that only Jason Roy got 'played out of the team' from 2019. Because all of the other first 11 guys were rested continuously. It's hard to get played out of the team if you are never being compared to the competitors for your spot in the same games/series.

I don't want to criticise the ECB on their prioritisation and scheduling, as a test cricket fan from a non-Big3, they are vital, as they tour everywhere and they tour often.

It's hard to fit all 3 in, or prioritise all 3. especially if there are 2 T20WCs in the 4 year cycle.

But, they do need to look at their domestic 50 over comp, which is the victim of the counties v ECB 'battle' over the T20/Hundred. They have 2 T20 comps and the 50-over comp relegated to reserve grade players.
