i dislike Fozzie as much or even more than the next bloke, will be happy to see him go and am very much looking forward to a reset next year
but i cant argue things seem to be, FINALLY, clicking
assuming this is the plan, fuck around for 4 years making everyone think its all falling apart then switch it on for the knockout games...then he/they are doing well, achieving their aim
would i have done it like that, solely focus on the RWC? hell no
....but...id rather have to concede fozzie knew what he was doing than SA win
Is Foster non binary too ?
Crumbs, at least it’ll give us something to give him grief about other than fat jokes I guess

The team, if this is the plan then the players have to be in on it, to stick to previous game plans the weren’t working

Isn't there a dedicated thread for you lot to cry endlessly about Foster?
-
I have fairly low expectations, I'm just asking Foster to help the ABs win one more game, and then he can lose as many as he likes. And if he looks smug currently, well, you can understand why.
I still think Farrell is one of the best coaches out there. -

Maybe Foster's coaching career is a version of the Mainland cheese advert. Maybe a bit more fitting than the Stephen Donald analogy?
I have all week to ponder it until Team Naming...
I think it's a fairly apt likeness comparing Fozzie to Donald.
Both are stories of redemption and making up for their past wrongs on the biggest stage. To everyone delight and surprise I might add.
However as much as Donald is loved in NZ rugby folk lore I doubt anyone would say that due to his 2011 performance he was a better first 5 than Carter or Fox or a great number of first 5's in the modern game.
Same would be said for Foster - there would be a certain RWC winner cult status provided to him but again I doubt many would say he was a better coach than well, anyone in the modern era aside from Laurie Mains...
So in summary I think it's a very apt comparison should the AB's win this weekend...

Still feels a bit like Stephen Donald territory rather than an underrated coach
Or Laurie Mains?
Years of schizo results and things come together during the RWC. We have the Saffas in the final.. hopefully someone can hit drop kicks better than Merhts. His hyped up successor has a great domestic record

@Bones The win % says more than the total number of wins.
He's no Laurie Mains, but everyone's gotta have goals.
John Mitchell done so dirty by that graphic
Foster seems like a guy a little out of his depth, Mitchell has always seemed like a KHunt. So not done dirty at all in my book.
At least Foster's players genuinely seem to be fond of him. Not sure any of Mitch's players would lay on a grenade for him. I dislike the man for clear reason. His only redeeming feature is that he has a son that plays cricket for NZ and does it very well
Carlos Spencer says ‘hold this needle’…
Quite a few players got their first shot under Mitchell or had a redemption under him. Sure there were rankles and players dropped (when isn’t there?) but I know at least a few who speak highly of the time.

having seen first hand how hard the Mitch and Deans ABs went on the piss, I'm sure they all had a ball.

I’m sure Spencer was holding a beer in the other hand….
How times have changed

Good point. Three years of plenty of dross, and then a RWC campaign & a drop goal away from being Sir Laurie.

Another poster pointed out to me that Laurie did much better than that summary

It's old ground that's been revisited a few times lately I guess. The 1992 World XV series, 1994, and the addition of Sir Brian Lochore into the '95 RWC campaign sat behind my throwaway one liner.

John Hart got a lot of grief given his %.

He had a bad year (1998?) and a poor RWC campaign, where he played the world's best 15 at 13 among other things

Did he? I recall Foz level result through 92-94. And even a split series post RWC..
-
What parts of the game is Joe Schmidt responsible for? I see Bryn Hall was saying the team is getting better the longer Schmidt has been involved because he's improved the breakdown efficiency/contact work.
Is he in charge of all of the attacking play? Moves from set pieces (for instance he's been given loads of credit for Jordan's try v Ireland) as well as the general play structure and breakdowns?

and came from Auckland, and was corporate. A few chips on a few shoulders (myself included at the time)
