This guy was mostly right, Woodman being stoopid was pretty predicable though.
-
NZ coach: "some defining calls that swung the game a bit". Lol.

Spot on, unfortunately.

Â

Lack of discipline very costly - it's a very stupid play in sevens to try to stop a try by knocking the ball down.

Â

Goss played very well for NZ. I was wondering when it was 7 on 6 and Woodman's time in the bin was clearly up, whether we should kick it out. We didn't look like we had the weaponry to score at that point.
-

I think they need to look at a rule whereby once the 2 minutes elapses, the sin binned player can automatically return the field from behind the goal line. The difference between being down to 6 players for 2 minutes or 4 minutes is huge.
-

Well done Aussie womens sevens. Best team going in, best team during, and now winners. Pretty conclusive. Is it churlish of me to dread the crowing of a public who are only going to see Aus beat NZ in rugby, and celebrates it as a "fantastic achievement" which would completely dismiss the work those girls have put in over the last 18 months to be the best side in the world?

Â

Going in we would have taken silver wouldn't we? so this was a pretty good result. Go on you ANZACs!

Â

Â

I saw the equestrian, saw Sir Mark Todd's name, and thought he must be the coach, but there he is, front and centre. Awesome.

Â

Â

You know earlier on when we described sports we would get rid of if we ran the IOC? I would like to put forward Water Polo. That's not a sport, that's mates on a saturday arvo mucking around at your house. At the very least they should change the rules so that you have to play with a beer in one hand, and that beer must never be empty. Reserves should be on the sideline cooking on the BBQ.
-

Probably. Â

Â

Tactically, I think we should have realised having seven players on the field is more valuable than one possession and kicked for the corner. I'm going to give the coach a black mark for that and also a black mark for not enforcing more discipline - crucial that you don't have someone in the bin in a knockout match. Used to be a major achilles heel of the Fijian men and possibly still is.
-

A two minute yellow card turns into four? Please....

Â

Â

Rugby (probably both 7s and 15) needs to follow the likes of ice hockey (and I think rugby league) where once the time is up the player is allowed onto the field straight away regardless of play.
-

Â

No!

Â

If we could collect the silver or replay the tournament I'd go for the replay and not even think about it.
-

NZ benefitted with YCs in the SF so swings and roundabouts.

Â

The problem to me had as much to do with selection as we didn't have the same speed as Aust did. Even Woodman wasn't beating players on the outside.

Â

I expected silver but can't but feel disappointed with the result.
-

Australia deserved to win. Pace is the weapon in 7s.
-

Fucking tense game up until Caslick scored a try she really shouldn't have - up until that point the Kiwis' front-on defence was the business. For some reason they just held off there, probably fatigue.

Â

NZ tackling early was immense, containing the Aussie girls, who looked rattled to me. A bad lineout, a try, and then the yellow card. A real turning point, particularly as it extended out by a couple of minutes and resulted in a try to us at the end of it.

Â

Really feel for Woodman and she looked shattered. But silver is nothing to sniff at and I'm sure it will motivate the womens' 7s program as a whole for next season.

Â

Â

Having said all that: GO YOU FUCKING GOOD THINGS!!!

Â

Aussie defence was probably better across the board, particularly in terms of the pace others have mentioned - NZ could make a break but get run down, whereas you felt if Cherry, Green or Caslick got into space, they were gone or had the support runners to capitalise.
-

What a great win, a huge moment for women's rugby in Australia. To have it in morning prime time, with millions watching around the world... incredible. I hope young girls everywhere were watching, and will be looking to pick up a rugby ball and have a run around.

Â

So proud of the team, it's been such a good year for them. The ARU have also done a great job, first in the recruitment stage (finding athletes from touch, basketball, league etc) and then making them full-time professionals.

Â

Think the rest of the world will catch up by the time Tokyo rolls around though, especially the USA, Russia and China.
