And reduces the obsession with statistics in general and averages in particular. A 50 in this game is like a big hundred elsewhere.

Good for Sri Lanka for preparing pitches that do something.

I can't believe the Galle of the sri Lankans preparing turning tracks when the Aussies don't like them.

I note Mitch stark has 11 wickets - gives zero fucks about whether the pitch is not pace friendly.

Sorry, starc.

And on names, there are two ceylonians named M Perera. Luckily they distinguish themselves by their middle names. The batsman is MDKJ Perera and the spinner is MDK Perera.

So, an update for y'all.

Aus are 25/3 chasing 413 with three days left. In simple terms, that's the end of the test, the series and the Murali-Warne trophy. How ironic to lose the trophy named after two of the greatest spinners of all time, by not being able to play spin :)

Aussie batsmen are showing repeated failures. Aussie quicks are deadly - Starc getting 11 in the match is remarkable. But really, couldn't happen to a nicer team. They are always so chirpy... :P

Not sure it's that easy. Say he scores a big 200 (which yuo'd have to say unlikely, given recent performance against spinners). That only leaves another 200 runs from the other 5 batters ... there's a reason betfair have Australia at 25-1 to win, and the TAB has SL at 1.01. It's not over but it is as good as over I'd say. And, if I'm wrong, then by god it'll be a great test match to watch!

It's not easy but I think it is their best chance. They aren't good enough to grind it out.

Voges and Mitch Marsh batting together now. Both have played 17 test matches. Adam averages 83, Mitch averages 23.

Mitch - "I'd like to bat at five".

Adam - "Fuck off"

Mitch - "....plays for his average...."

yea, that's what i am saying, it's not "suddenly" at all, they can't play spin to save their lives.

They went to India in 2013 and got pounded 0-4. They played Pakistan away and got fucking hammered 0-2, now they are in Sri Lanka and getting fucked.

They may be the #1 side, but that's built on them being very fucking good in Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. They're shit in England, and terrible on the South continent (or the middle east i guess)

I think the label "flat track bully" fits pretty much all of their batsmen bar maybe Smith at the moment.

They are getting fucked in this test against one of the weakest Sri Lankan teams in my memory anyway.

I'm quite pleased about that.

Based on his first class record he's got a pretty inflated average in all three forms. I suspect he's not "a great of the game" and I hope he'll play long enough that he's not an anomaly at the Andy Ganteaume level.

What's been most impressive is that on a flattish wicket against militray medium pace bowling at a 5th or 6th stump line, Guptill has been very measured in his shot selection. I expect that they might start ramping it up against the spinners (I always get nervous when I see sweeps these days - it's far easier to get a LBW decision post DRS than before) but hopefully the same considered shot selction will win out - no need to go full retard - just accumulate and let the pressure and fatigue do the work

I've got a $10 multi at 1000:1 - Hurricanes to win AND Guppy to make a hundred. :)

Guppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reasonable chance he's going to average more than 60 for the series, but I'm regarding that as a failure. I wanted 250+ runs out of him for twice out. Latham a good chance to do that.
