Ireland have both of these teams back to back and then a QF?
Unfortunately yes. Ire v Sco will be massive.
Your compatriots think SA are over-rated and Scotland easybeats. I would have though Irish fans have learnt from previous world cups and take nothing for granted.
Unfortunately there's a lot of bellends following Irish rugby since they've improved the last decade or so. Bandwagoners. Pundits and media are the biggest offenders.
Yeah you’ve basically become the new NZ

SA were not convincing at all … felt the game could have gone either way up to half time. Concern is Kolisi seemed to be limping. Pulled soon after making a steal.
SA were never losing that game imo.

"Your compatriots"?
Utter bollocks. No one thinks SA are over-rated.
Some might think they might play turgid, robotic, terminator rugby - but it's highly effective at winning games.
Any knowledgeable Irish rugby fan isn't thinking beyond getting out of the pool, and if they do, could they possibly win a quarter-final for the first time.

@Billy-Tell
Maybe. Didn’t feel like it though. Felt like the wheels could come off right up to about the 60th minute -

Herein lies the issue.
True. it's nearly the same in Ireland, in fairness.

@Machpants shining the light in the refs eyes when the Boks were off thier feet

SA unnecessarily rolling the dice with the bench
They’re going to come unstuck sooner rather than later
Faf gets injured, SA lose
Personally I think it's pretty smart of them if they can get away with just 2 back subs.
They can sub basically the entire forward pack so they can maintain a high intensity bash-em-up game which plays to their strengths.
-
Sometimes having a short front row can be an advantage in the scrums as you get underneath taller opponents.
While Scotland did make handling errors, the scrum and lineout woes in the 2nd half were their biggest problem. van der Merwe wasn't in the game until the last 20 mins.
I've always thought that Scotland is a better chance to beat Ireland than SA.

Agreed
Williams was excellent -
That was a very dumb performance by the the boks.
We have issues with goal kicking, but a monster maul, so what do we do? Take two very ambitious shots when we could go to the corner to turn the screw.
The frontrow took until half time to set up properly. In the first they were caught with their feet too far back, but didn't fix it themselves.
Twice holding balls in messy mauls leading to turnovers.
Kicking three grubbers while in the Scottish 22.
Cheslin twice getting caught out of position for 50 22s (recovered the first one).
Not good enough.

Yeah, although recent history favours the Irish. Scotland haven’t had a win since 2017.
I think the world ranking of fifth is pretty generous because ( maybe this is history speaking ) even if they did knock over Ireland I still reckon there’s a snowballs chance in hell of them beating the ABs in a quarter final.
But then…..
Foster.
So exciting times coming up !!!!

@akan004 SA have never beaten us in a quarter/semi have they?
That can be another '1st' if it happens for that list someone is making....but I think we are more than capable of beating them, we just need to play more than 30 odd minutes.

Agree with everything here.
I felt the Boks struggled to get out of second gear. Driving mauls - the few they tried - were sloppy. In fairness, credit must go to Scotland for blunting this weapon, although I felt that if we persisted, we would have come right.
And some of the decisions to go for posts from penalties were just dumb. The one from +50m rates as idiotic. We were winning our lineouts pretty well, and eventually the rolling maul would have clicked...But I will take the win and we can move on. I thought Scotland could be a real banana peel for us, glad we negotiated our way through this.
And as a footnote: Jesse Kriel was jolly lucky to avoid any sanction for the headclash tackle. Certainly if the same ruling that affected Tom Curry was made. Which, in my opinion is a yellow only for what it's worth. Thought the upgrade to red for Curry was stupid.

@taniwharugby Don't think we have the pack to match them. We may hold our own with our starting pack, but as they start to tire and when their bomb squad comes on we will struggle imo. Our forward reserves aren't in the same league as theirs.
