That was a fun game to watch.

Armstrong-Ravula would be at short odds to be the NZ U20 1st 5 next year if he hasn't turned 20 yet.

@Stargazer That's what the ref ruled, but it was a knock on in the tackle and was missed.

But as I said, Auckland were 2nd best for most of the game, a lot due to their own poor discipline and got what they deserved.

Was a good result from a neautral point of view, do enjoy underdog getting up. And the Manawatu on a run of wins now as @Canes4life says wouldn't mind seeing Canes take Viljjoen etc on fulltime.

how the fuck does the far touchie miss a clear knock on - wtf do touchies look at? Ridiculous

Don't shoot the messenger, but the radio commentators mentioned that it wasn't a knock on, but that one of the Auckland players played the ball on the ground. IIRC the signal of the ref corresponded with that, but not sure.

Nah I just re-watched it to make sure.

    Two separate acts

A clear knock first - then following Auckland player pinged for playing it on the ground.

But the first act is a crystal clear knock on.

@Dan54 he has a rapid pass from the base, wouldn't be a bad player to bring on in the last twenty. He'd wouldn't be a bad third choice behind Roigard and Perenara.

    Armstrong-Ravula is a Fijian U20 player already.

@Chris Yep, and Under 20s doesn't lock a player in (doesn't affect eligibility).

@Chris Ok mate, didn't know he had switched etc, I had thought while watching him he looked like he would be handy for Canes in future.

Just had a peek, he was in U20 tournament team named at end of comp too. Seems he went to high school in Aus and then came to a Christchurch college then to Manawatu. Is he contracted to Crusaders?
I realised U20s didn't capture players, used to for Fiji but WR stepped in?

    @Dan54

He is Ritchie Moungas nephew that is how he ended up at St Andrew’s college,Ritchie’s school.

I hear he has signed with the Crusader’s.

It's the result of a change in the World Rugby eligibility rules that came into effect on 1 January 2018. From that date, national rugby unions could no longer nominate their U20s team as their "next senior national representative team". As you'll remember players can be captured by a country's "senior national representative team", "next senior national representative team" and their senior national representative sevens team.

Not to diverge from this match but there have been a few young players who played for a PI U20 team as they didn't make the NZ team, but were then selected for the NZ U20s the following year.

Gavigan is a big LHP. Could he get a call for the 2024 SRP ?

Ahh cheers Chris, I remember hearing he was Richie's nephew, but as the old memory glands seem to have a leak, it had slipped my mind completely!

@cgrant he's gone through the Hurricanes under 20s setup so he's definitely on their radar. With Numia, Mafileo and Rakete-Stones, we may already be full in that department though.

I saw bits of the first half and a very occasional glimpse of the second.

Slack defence basically, and unforced errors. Same as every rugby game.
