Auckland v Manawatu

Unbelieveable from the Turbos ..a bunch of no names deal to a team stacked with Super Rugby players ..upset for the ages ..!
-
A few dodgy calls in that last 5mins. Auckland with so many soft penalties throughout didn’t deserve any luck

A few Auckland thoughts
-
how the fuck does the far touchie miss a clear knock on - wtf do touchies look at? Ridiculous
-
Abysmal auckland discipline - some of the dumbest penalties you will ever see
-
For all the good things Leni Apisai does he does equal part shit things - i wish he would fuck off to be honest. Get a young player in.
-
Peyton spencer looks good

Get up Manawatu. I hope the Canes sign up Vijoen and Nalaga on full time contracts after being on training squad contracts last year.

Don't shoot the messenger, but the radio commentators mentioned that it wasn't a knock on, but that one of the Auckland players played the ball on the ground. IIRC the signal of the ref corresponded with that, but not sure.

Good wake up call for Auckland tbh. Discipline was atrocious and they paid for it, and yes, that was a blatant knock on at the end, but Auckland were 2nd best from about 20 mins onwards and deserved to lose.
-
@Stargazer That's what the ref ruled, but it was a knock on in the tackle and was missed.
But as I said, Auckland were 2nd best for most of the game, a lot due to their own poor discipline and got what they deserved.
-
Was a good result from a neautral point of view, do enjoy underdog getting up. And the Manawatu on a run of wins now as @Canes4life says wouldn't mind seeing Canes take Viljjoen etc on fulltime.

Nah I just re-watched it to make sure.
Two separate acts
A clear knock first - then following Auckland player pinged for playing it on the ground.
But the first act is a crystal clear knock on.

Just had a peek, he was in U20 tournament team named at end of comp too. Seems he went to high school in Aus and then came to a Christchurch college then to Manawatu. Is he contracted to Crusaders?
I realised U20s didn't capture players, used to for Fiji but WR stepped in? -

It's the result of a change in the World Rugby eligibility rules that came into effect on 1 January 2018. From that date, national rugby unions could no longer nominate their U20s team as their "next senior national representative team". As you'll remember players can be captured by a country's "senior national representative team", "next senior national representative team" and their senior national representative sevens team.
