Rugby World Cup general discussion

@Billy-Tell I remember you using the same ‘joke’ on the Laporte thread.
Nothing’s happened yet, but I can see huge controversy ahead if a side effectively gets knocked out of the tournament by a dubious Red Card from the bunker to a key player early in a game.

Cmon man. You’re spouting conspiracy theory nonsense!

@sparky didn't I see the other day that they're doing the 20 minute red card now, unless it's deemed deliberate foul play?
No. They are only doing the yellow first then bunker has ten minutes to confirm yellow or upgrade to red
-
@Billy-Tell I’m uneasy about an unprecedented reduction of accountability and transparency around the issuing of Red Cards. That is hardly the same as proclaiming the moon landings were faked.

The new system is miles better. Takes the pressure off the ref and the home crowd out of the equation. I don’t think Italian mafia betting gangs will be involved. Rugby is small fry.

I don't know how ruck still exist, but I guess I'm part of the problem.

I think they were basing that off a rumour "contrary to recent reports..."
-
how is that even remotely legal? i would love to see the loophole where this ignores the offside rule, the obstruction rule, and the taking people out past the ball rule.
-
@mariner4life It's actually linked to something that I mentioned a while ago that is becoming more prominent - tacklers getting tackled (removed) off the ball carrier, which is being completely ignored by refs but I can't see how it would be legal.
-
this is taking it way past that. this is allowing a guy to come from anywhere and "tackle" someone trying to form a ruck. And it's not exactly subtle.
As the article says, they surely got a ruling, so i would love to hear that explanation
-
well I'm sure if McCaw had done it, they'd be changing the rules to stop him, agree though, technically legal maybe, just looks all kinds of wrong.
-
@mariner4life if you're ignoring the scenario I mentioned, then it's the logical next step to ignore what Ireland are doing.
