Good day for NZers at the World Champs.

Both Walsh and Gill straight through to final.

McTaggart made the women's pole vault final, as did women's discus chucker, whose name escapes me.

I can't blame him because he didn't get much support from Athletics NZ.

Kiwi sprinter Eddie Osei-Nketia’s decision to pursue a career in American football has blindsided Athletics New Zealand (ANZ).

The 21-year-old, who smashed his father’s long-standing New Zealand 100m record this year (10.08sec), has joined the University of Hawaii football team, albeit without apparently speaking to the governing body first.

Ludicrous eh? My daughter runs the 1500m competitively so we follow Jess Hull on insta (seems like a total legend of a person) - she set a new Australian record in that race with a 3:57 and got beaten by the length of the straight!!!

And she’s now gone and broken the 5,000m record in Paris. What a freak!

@MiketheSnow Incredible! She could probably take on the 800m record at this rate.

Peter Snell? Man was obviously superhuman to set a record that stood for 62 years, especially when you consider some of the super stars of middle distance who have come since. Walker in particular.

Also shows that Kiwi middle distance running has been average for some time

@booboo 800m as a distance is a repugnant race. Can't pace yourself, can't sprint. It's a distance that destroys you. Breaking the NZ record at over 27.5 km/h doesn't get Preston in the top 150 for the distance - astonishing when you think of it.

Been plenty of Olympic medallists in that time. Walker in particular, Willis, Quax, Dixon.

Yeah most of those guys were 50 years ago, but still ...
