@Kiwiwomble This occured to me straight after a posted it, but all of the kits barring the 97-99 ones are based around a three stripe as the main thing up until about 2013.

Or perhaps something more like this, but with a big maroon strip through the middle. The best Super rugby kits outside of those 97-99 ones were the ones used for the Lions games by a mile.

I really think when they created these teams they should have used completely different colours to the host unions colours. You watch a Chiefs game and people still wear their Waikato gear because it's the same colour. It doesn't represent Counties or BOP.

@mikedogz yeah it's an interesting one, if you look back to 98/99 when the Chiefs had Northland and Harbour as part of their catchment, they had the maroon and blue wave on their jersey. After that it's just been mostly black with yellow and red. In saying that, some people still don't know the difference between Waikato and the Chiefs.

The Blues did it well with their men's health jersey they used in round 1 of 2013 which had the harlequin design with Cambridge blue and maroon.

There has always been laziness from the jersey designers. As I've mentioned before, there has been ample opportunity to incorporate the others colours from CM, BOP, KC, TV, etc in the away jersey. But no, let's just make them white.

@Bovidae i think that actually the problem, we go for these companies with a joint deal and leave it up to them....so they just do what they want to sell jerseys...where as if the franchises took more responsibility for their brands and developing some history they would have insisted on something more unique and iconic...even if it was "ugly"...but it was theirs

@Kiwiwomble I know the Chiefs jerseys are designed by an actual person within the area and sent off to Adidas but unsure of the rest of the teams.

@Yeetyaah ive always thought the chiefs seem to have more individual design, maybe theyve just owned that aspect more than the other franchises

within that they must only be able to design within the currently template Adidas are currently making

@Kiwiwomble well CCC had an entire 'ugly' training range which was just off cuts of various strips...plus, most Chiefs jersies are ugly anyway 🙂 🎣

this might be my fav super jersey ever, close up loads of cool unique detail but at a distance a solid basic jersey

I woul dhave loved if we'd done something similar with celtic patterns, blue/marron/gold

Agreed, chiefs jerseys are the best, most of the time.

From what I've heard, they very nearly re-signed with Adidas but changed their minds last minute, Adidas were filthy

I heard something quite different, Adidas were close to pulling the pin completely on NZ, looking to focus more on other sports and super sponsorship wasn't making much so was a bit more of an amicable parting there, but the appointment of someone fairly high up in Adidas wanted to keep the AB relationship.

    🤷♂

That would make sense to me. The only stuff I see outside NZ is the AB stuff. They need to make more casual AB stuff and get it established as its own sub-brand.

@taniwharugby yeah, i'd hear elsewhere that adidas we looking to move out of rugby, lost france and club teams like Quins

I do laugh at the idea of super not making any money for them...when they put so little effort into their range

@Kiwiwomble you'd think fan bases for super teams is pretty limited though...whereas the ABs have global appeal.

@taniwharugby i think we're as big as other sports clubs around the world but as we're seeing looking at some of the "classic" offerings....some manufacturers seem to just do more stuff

its been down hill since they went for tighter jerseys...and then wondered why people not fit enough to play professional rugby dont buy jerseys design to fit tight on a professional rugby players...but then dont bother with alternative supporters gear and now theres probably a generation of supporters that have just got use to not buying supporters gear

@Kiwiwomble Not to mention those ugly greyish ocean away jerseys a few years ago, where you could hardly see the difference between the jerseys of the NZ SR franchises.
