i support the sharks in the NRL so had a quick look at their store...loads of cool stuff, hope we can get even a fraction of that range
big fan of the heritage jersey template
looks like they have 24 different types of hat (caps, beanies etc), more likely to grab one of those than a jersey now days

I had heard about the change to Classic late last year and was sworn to secrecy. From what I've heard, they very nearly re-signed with Adidas but changed their minds last minute, Adidas were filthy. Source comes from a jersey designer for one of the super teams.
I've kinda grown to like Adidas but it doesn't bother me who gets it as long as it looks good and fits good, seems like Classic have some good ambition with gear though.
Apparently also the reason we have never got heritage jerseys based off the 97/98/99 designs is because CCC still own the designs so unsure how that will work out with Classic moving forward.
-
@Yeetyaah i wonder why they take so long to announce these things
I feel Adidas had been phoning it for years so happy for someone else to have a go
ive heard that before about CCC still owning the rights to the designs. There is a couple of questions i always have about that though, the Chiefs/adidas did bring out a heritage jersey a couple of years back...so worst case CCC seem have been open to it before
but, the bigger question. In every case ive know with a service provider...its the end client that owns the final product, so my understanding would be CCC might be able to own the IP for the creation of the jerseys, any manufacturing secrets or whatever...but what was actually produced should belong to NZR/Franchises.
In the case of the Highlanders Tartan Jersey, At the time it was advertised as the Highlanders Official Tartan, officially made for the Highlanders by the Scottish Register of Tartans...so i dont see how CCC could own that
all very weird and if CCC does own some sort of rights over previous designs it seems very unusual and someone at NZR fucked up
-
@Kiwiwomble some of those early super rugby jersies were awful!
-
@taniwharugby definitely a case of nostalgia rather than outright beauty
rather than the tartan one i would love a 96 jersey...just good old fashioned rugby jersey stripes

Ä€e that was the 96 jersey, that's why I specified 97/98/99. I'm only going off what I've been told so I don't have all the answers.
-
@frugby thats kind of the problem with the NZ jersey...there is little iconic about any of them, generally just a colour...i think thats why those late 90's CCC ones get reference so much....theyre the only ones lots of people remember
Thats why i'd be happy to bring some rugby patterns back, stripes or quarters
-
@Kiwiwomble This occured to me straight after a posted it, but all of the kits barring the 97-99 ones are based around a three stripe as the main thing up until about 2013.

I really think when they created these teams they should have used completely different colours to the host unions colours. You watch a Chiefs game and people still wear their Waikato gear because it's the same colour. It doesn't represent Counties or BOP.
-
@mikedogz yeah it's an interesting one, if you look back to 98/99 when the Chiefs had Northland and Harbour as part of their catchment, they had the maroon and blue wave on their jersey. After that it's just been mostly black with yellow and red. In saying that, some people still don't know the difference between Waikato and the Chiefs.
The Blues did it well with their men's health jersey they used in round 1 of 2013 which had the harlequin design with Cambridge blue and maroon.

There has always been laziness from the jersey designers. As I've mentioned before, there has been ample opportunity to incorporate the others colours from CM, BOP, KC, TV, etc in the away jersey. But no, let's just make them white.
-
@Bovidae i think that actually the problem, we go for these companies with a joint deal and leave it up to them....so they just do what they want to sell jerseys...where as if the franchises took more responsibility for their brands and developing some history they would have insisted on something more unique and iconic...even if it was "ugly"...but it was theirs
-
@Kiwiwomble I know the Chiefs jerseys are designed by an actual person within the area and sent off to Adidas but unsure of the rest of the teams.
