Wonderful Japanese try
The 12 skinned
Both of Japan's midfield breaks were from Faleafaga missed tackles.

I'd still like to know who is the forwards coach for this team.
That might be a rhetorical question, but this might help narrow the field!
The 2023 New Zealand Under 20 wider squad of 38 players has been selected by Head Coach Clark Laidlaw and Assistants Marty Bourke and Wesley Clarke....

@Chris-B Yeah, I posted the coaching group a while back when asking the same question after the problems against Aust. It's probably Wes Clarke.
Wesley joined the Black Ferns coaching team in 2015 and was an integral part of their 5th Women’s Rugby World Cup win in 2017 as their lineout, defence and forwards play specialist coach.
I think he was more defence for the Black Ferns last year as Whitney Hansen was in charge of the forwards.

I just watched the highlights but I'd say the maul defense by the NZ forwards was really poor. And it was only Japan ! One of the coaches has to be blamed for this.
Wesley Clarke was in charge of the forwards apparently. He was defence coach for the black ferns last year.
This team was so poorly lacking in basic skills. I’ve not seen a NZ representative team drop so many balls and make so many basic errors in quite some time. Are these guys really the best they could get? An inquiry needs to be held in how poor this (and the 2019) u20s campaign has gone.

How much has this team being impacted by the COVID years, specifically 2020 and 2021 impacted this side? Most of these guys are what two years out of school. Meaning they missed out on a fair chunk of their last two years due to restrictions and development. A lot of other countries had lockdowns, but a different style of lockdowns, with some getting swift, sharp lockdowns. While others appearing to be strict, but also quite flexible.

@SouthernMann yeah I think covid has had a large impact on our game (at all levels) which means we will still feel impacts of it, albeit lesser, for a bit of time yet, although other nations have had disruption too, but I think that 2020 season in particular has had an impact on the game.
