Not specific to the current series, but very sad news about Allan Border. For a few years in the 80s it seemed like he was THE Australian team. First man to 11,000 test runs.
Sad news.
I know we were supposed to hate Aussie cricketers out of principle but I never really did and Border was an absolute legend back in the day, the way he held that team together was incredible. The cliche of the stubborn Aussie battler was personified in how he played and handled himself. He must have loved the last few years when he played with some of the fellow legends who followed him into the team.
The very definition of a guy you’d want to bat for your life.
Hope he’s doing as ok as can be expected.

Although he became Captain Grumpy following the 1985 Ashes in England, he was still a very well respected guy over here. He was the one batsman that stood out in the 1981 series here and he was also the hardest bugger to get out in the 1985 series over here. Always a highly prized wicket.

He adopted that persona deliberately didn’t he ? I read he wanted to do all he could to win and being surly towards the opposition was part of that plan.
-
@MN5 Yeah, that was after the 1985 series which he felt they were too friendly towards the opposition. It was reportedly quite a shock to some of the England guys next time around.
Edit: I don't think that persona was indicative of the man himself.

If this is how test cricket will get played from now on I’m checking out. Someone needs to die again before they change the rules. ALMOST as bad as Rawalpindi test matches

Absolutely fair comments and good for you.
What rules would you like changed and what is your problem with the current situation?

The wicket isn't giving much assistance at this point.
All hail Bazball
Certainly isn't. Hence why England are playing the long game with setting traps etc. Not sure what that has to do with Bazball myself.
Australia still a long way ahead despite not playing anything like Bazball.
As soon as I type that they start picking things up. Ponting thinks they have enough (so do I) so I guess now it's just about putting a bit more on the board pre declaration. Wouldn't surprise me if they declare at 393 ahead just to be smart arses ...

Lyon's a gutsy little bastard isn't he?

Starc bowling really well - fuller and swinging it a lot. Big contrast with England bowlers

This is shit cricket, predicated by a wicket that offers nothing to the bowlers, because the batting thrash wank that is "BAZBALL" aims to take bowlers out of play.
As I said previously, it is the worst parts of India or Pakistan in the 90s and even up to today, with milder weather and better sandwiches.
Mod: take the abuse elsewhere Nick.
