    @kiwi_expat he's kinda right.

The underlying issue though is Super is no longer the premier domestic rugby comp in the world. It's slipped; I think we miss the SA teams in particular. Performance in Super no longer predicts success in Tests.

for all the various idea thats have been tabled, i thin at very least handing the running over to its own organisation, one thats focus on whats best for the competition (making it sustainable etc) rather than whats best for each countries nations teams would be a positive way forward and should be looked at

    Along with some good banter

    A suggestion...
This is the last time the five foundation New Zealand sides will line up all in Adidas uniforms. The rumour mill suggests Classic Sportswear – who provide for a bunch of NRL sides – has done a deal with all five to take over the Super Rugby apparel from 2024, after the Super Rugby teams were allowed to be excluded from New Zealand Rugby’s arrangement with Adidas.

    A prediction...
The Classic Sports logo has a Kangaroo in it, which may be about as close as an Australian gets to winning Super Rugby in the next wee while.

All Blacks, Sport, Rugby, Super Rugby

im not against some change, i'd have let the franchises find their own kit suppliers as might get some competition going

just looking, loads of their jerseys just have "classic" with no kangaroo

I think the main issue with this is that each countries home union pays the bills. So they want to run Super but run it without the risk of keeping up payroll etc. So even if independent it would still need to have input/members from the home union anyway. So, while I'm not fully against it, I think that the realities of rugby in the SH are being ignored by suggesting something completely independent of the unions.

Although, TBH, when reviewing the efforts of the current private ownership bodies for each of our franchises, I see nothing that suggests that running these things independently will work any better than if the union ran it.

@Nepia i think NZR/RA would just need to be less hands off, provide the budgets the teams have to operate and then leave it to the teams and the organisation, the goal surely has to be seeing if they cant make the teams self sufficient

like the jersey stuff above, NZR sorts the kit suppliers...but that stops the individual team getting a better deal, we dont know that nike or canterbury didn't want to come in and supply one of the teams, take some market share off adidas...and if they dont want to do that but do supply other comps then we have to look at why the comp isn;t attracting these kinds of deals

AFC Wimbledon are having a similar debate, its a fan owned club, one fan one vote, but have allowed 25% to be sold of to private people...but we cant find people to take that up....the feedback being they dont want to invest in something when they dont actually own a meaningful amount...i cam imagine the franchises arent overly attractive to private money because so much is still controlled by NZ rugby...your basically just buying the right to operate something without the rights to change lots of things

The Chiefs should win the title next year. Well placed to challenge again, not losing too many key players, and crucially where they are, they have ready to go replacements. The Crusaders will drop off, losing a truckload of key men, and not least Scott Robertson. How will Rob Penney step up? They'll be good, but they won't win it. Should be a good competition really. I've got my blue-tinted glasses on, but do think if we can secure a centre, the Highlanders could push for the semi-finals. Reckon the Canes will be strong, but questions around Laidlaw as a 15s coach. Blues have a lightweight forward pack... can see them taking a step back.

    @frugby

I remember the same sort of post at the start of the year from another poster,Yet here we are again 7 in a row and a 14th title.

Never say never I love how the Crusaders get written off,They just blooded a heap of players who would not have played in high pressure Finals Rugby they will grow with that experience, the Chiefs will lose Weber,Retalick key players IMO.

While the Crusaders will be without RM, SW, LF, JG, there are a significant number of players coming back from injury next season, in addition to a few new signings, our defence coach Tamiti Ellison is remaining. I would say we are retaining a pretty good core of players.

Crusaders will be one of the title contenders next year for sure but losing Whitelock, Razor and Mo'unga is nothing to be sneezed at.

@frugby the Canes, Chiefs and Crusaders will be the strongest Kiwi teams next year IMO.

The Canes are building nicely and will retain most of their group from this year. Their main issue in the off season is to find one or two locks with grunt to compliment the X factor everywhere else.

The Chiefs will be one of the favourites again with a pretty settled squad and a burning desire to go one better.

And the Crusaders, well 7 titles in a row says it all.

I think the Blues will drop in the pecking order. They will have their moments but I think this year’s performance will damage that sides mentality for a while.

The Highlanders, well they’ll probably have a worse squad than this year and like Joe Wheeler said, they might end up fighting for the spoon in 2024 unfortunately.

    @frugby

crusaders will still have lots of ABs. That should see them in the running even if RP is a poor head coach.

Canes for example will have only 1 current AB forward. Crusaders will have 3 and likely 2-3 more but for injuries . Backs. Canes 2. Crusaders 4

If they can't compete for the title RP should get the boot.

One rule change would be to increase the NZ SRP teams salary cap . But make each team pick up say half the AB salary ( up to a set figure). This would make it hard for teams to attract all the best players. And win year after year and as a result make it easier to attract the best young players

I don’t know what other teams will look like next year but the best Hurricanes 23 (without the announcement of any new signings) will probably look something like this, definitely a contender IMO. A lot of this team are All Black XV players atm but will be looking to push for AB spots next year.

    1. Numia
    2. Aumua
    3. Lomax
    4. Sangster
    5. Walker-Leawere
    6. Delany
    7. Kirifi
    8. Flanders
    9. Roigard
    10. Cameron
    11. Naholo
    12. Barrett
    13. Proctor
    14. Moorby
    15. Love
      Reserves:
    16. Devery
    17. Rakete-Stones
    18. Mafileo
    19. Howden
    20. Lakai
    21. Perenara (if he stays)
    22. Godfrey
    23. Sullivan

    The Highlanders, well they’ll probably

Could also apply to the chiefs. The better team but they threw the final away at home due to silly penalties and yellow cards. Reflect poorly on CM and getting his players in the right mental state

Whereas the Blues will have a new coach. Like the Canes it will depend on how the new coaching team perform
