    What. A. Match.

I’ve been picking Oz all day and they still aren’t out of it. But you’d have to back the Poms from here

Aaargh! Fuck! Use the new ball ffs.

Hats off Aus, really gutsy and Cummins-what a captain’s knock. Seems like a bloke it’s hard to hate.

@NTA @barbarian Onya, ya fluffybunnies. Next time eh?

Pretty epic game given there were only 4 days worth of overs bowled. Can't really complain about a game that goes past 7pm with all 4 results possible.

I hope England sound disappointed in their interviews - and don't mention the "brand of cricket" - that really grinds my gears.

    Bazball doesn't do draws...

England's first innings scoring rate is going to lose them as many games as it wins. The other side has so much time to get back to parity, and results are always on the table

Does make for great viewing though, but time is a weapon in test cricket.

The better team won. I wonder if England are ruing that early declaration ? Another 30 odd runs could have made it extremely tense.

Good work Cummins, Southee, THAT is how you do it.

I think that you can go back and look at any number of moves that may have a made a difference. The declaration, I thought, was too early but then if they'd nicked a wicket or two that night it would have been a stroke of genius. The two issues that did bite us I think were that our attack was partially dependent upon two guys (Stokes and Moeen) that had not bowled much if at all in test cricket recently and were carrying fitness issues and then not taking the new ball when Lyons was the newish batsman (I refuse to say batter).

Forget all that; your fielding was poor. That's what cost you.

You need a better keeper and some of the boundary fielding ... Yikes...

I go back to my earlier comment about how a year with McCullum should produce better fielding...

    Same. Good man.

Bazball sure is a gamble and this one didn’t quite pay off. Roll on the second test !

Good game by the looks. I was asleep before they started play, and offer my praise to those who stayed up. Don't think my nerves could have taken that

Yeah I wonder if Bairstow is for the chop ? ( as a keeper at least )

The top three are a bit journeymanish overall, one of them ? Obviously Root, Brooks and Stokes are safe.

Interesting decision coming up. From what I read his keeping was pretty shit but he had an amazing year with the bat last year as we all know. Freakish form.

Bazball creates the opportunities to get a result but the old adage always rings true - catches win matches.

England dropped catches at crucial times.

Good test match though and even on a wicket that looked a little benign. The weather certainly helped bring something.
