Ashes 2023

Rain inbound!
Feels like a slight advantage to England with Warner, Labuschagne, and Smith back in the pavilion. But if Khawaja can bat all day again...
Maybe but there’s enough Australian batting to do the biz if they get it right but as someone has mentioned Starc would be a handy guy to have in that bottom order. Last three are a bit ordinary.

So much for a shitty wicket unable to provide a decent game! Looking like a day 5, session 2 result wicket - nigh on perfect?
Still a road. The only thing that has changed it is England's over-aggressive style and labiashame playing two of the worst shots in his career.
(And Warner is basically a shot duck)

Based on the last 4 days, Bazball is good for England in that they all seem to be reading from the same script now in terms of batting aggressively. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes not. That's cricket.
It hasn't really changed their bowling (Robinson lost weight which helped), which is Broad and Anderson pretty much.
It still hasn't improved Bairstow as a keeper and I honestly thought after a year with McCullum their fielding would be better.
It is bringing in large crowds and giving them something to cheer about in the English sun. That's a plus.
MOD EDIT: Removed the boring mild digs. Enjoy the cricket.

@barbarian Out of interest what was your take on Usman celebrating his century like a 4 year old girl on xmas day opening up to see a Barbie doll? As this celebration kind of suggests the same as what you said about Robinson - doesn't believe he has what it takes etc.
I don't know why people let this stuff get under their skin so much.
Passion, heat of the moment, top level sport. Its what you want to see. Give me this over robots anyday.
Look it was a bit OTT, but there's a direct relationship between the size of the achievement and how willing I am to forgive overcelebration.
If you score a big hundred in the opening Ashes match then you get a certain leeway that you wouldn't if, say, all you did was dismiss a bloke for 140.

It's going to be a cracking series. Reckon it might well end up 3-2 (weather permitting), but no idea who ends up with 3...

Very very wet in Surrey this morning, and very very humid. Ball should be doing a lot today.
System has now passed through us, and is currently going through Birmingham. Expect no play this morning, likely start around 1pm I reckon. No rain due this avo. Plenty of time for a result. Excellent!

Fair enough, although I can't say I agree myself with you at all.. Robinsons got 70 wickets at an average of 20, so dismissing Khawaja for 140 is hardly his crowning achievement & what he needed to prove to himself that he belonged. I would actually say that about Khawaja's celebration.
Robinson was, in my view, more about really pumping up the Poms, which worked as they then skittled the tail of Australia for 20 runs.
Regardless, we've seen a cracking test despite all the first morning TSF whining, which has set things up for a magnificent series. Thats all that really matters.

Some lovely singing from the Hollies stand when Smith was fielding close by.
To the tune of Guantanamera.
“Cry on the telly. We saw you cry on the tellly. Cry on the teeeelly, we saw you cry on the telly”.
Classic.

Similar forecast to @MajorRage's. Run rate required rising and potential cloud cover - Advantage England.

No start until at least 13:10.
Not been this excited about a cricket match NZ not playing in for ages!! Love the Ashes!
Reckon my support will wander over the course of the series. Both teams have things I really don't like about them and things I really like. I guess with living here and my son being a mad England supporter, I sort of lean towards them.
But by fuck do I get pissed off what is written about them.
Man for man, they aren't even close to Australia. You wouldn't know it though from what's written.

No they’re not and I think that will play a huge part as the series goes on.
Very few Poms would get in a combined team…..then again I said this on here before they played the Black Caps and beat them 3-0 so what do I know ?

The Nathan Lyon / Mo Ali version is a distant second. Still funny though and good to see the Aussie fielders embracing it all.
