Liam Messam shock AB recall ?
-

I think that is the sticking point, he wasn't contracted by the Chiefs, but I guess he was to the NZRU?

I guess the question they're asking is "Have you got four fit loose forwards who were named in your original squad and can reasonably cover the match requirements"?

Seems like the answer is "Yes".

Supplementary question.

Then why do you need Messam?

Probable answer - because he's a shit load better than Koloamatangi.

I think even the delay in deciding on his eligibility is quite explicable, because the first question couldn't be answered until after the final play-off game.

So you're saying that the bigwigs in SANZAR have no understanding of the differences in position between 6/8 and 7?

The Chiefs now have two 7s and no 6 cover unless they use their lock cover in that position and then they have no lock cover.

I wonder if the fact they played Cane at 8 in a one off game is counting against them now? Even though his entire career has been as a 7.
-

They have Tevita Koloamatangi who is primarily a 6 who can play 7 for the Mako$. :)

What does Bardoul play?

Sanders is a 6/8 and as you say, it's hard to say Cane can't play 8 when he's played there.
-

Koloamatangi is a 7, he's always been selected as a 7 in the Chiefs.

Bardoul is on the injured list. Boshier is the fit one starting with the letter B and he's primarily a 7.

Sanders is the one actual 6 left standing.

You're doing a lot of work defending your Ta$man boy's place in the team. ;)
-

Have to say, I'm much more surprised that Lambie is barred from playing if, as it seems, he's been part of the Sharks squad from the start. That's pretty hardline.

Presumably the Chiefs had to receive a dispensation even to use Koloamatangi.
-

Koloamatangi is a 6.

Shane Christie is the Mako's primary 7. TK has covered there when he's been injured and off the bench.
-

ITM/MItre 10 play doesnt count for much these days, didnt the Chiefs prop that caused all the controversy recently play the side at ITM that he couldnt at Super level?

We're talking Chiefs here, not some satellite Christchurch team based in Malborough. :)
-

And a full explanation from Chief's loose forward Tevita Koloamatangi.
-

It's distinctly unsporting to bring facts to a Fern discussion Chris! For shame. Actually those don't really refute my point anyway - one is from 2010 and the other says he's a specialist 7 but needs to play 7 at Ta$man due to Christie being there - and they're both discussing Ta$man, not the Chiefs.

-

Just reassuring you that you've got lots of cover - he's even apparently played more at 8 than I recall - though to be fair I haven't seen much of him in the past couple of years due to the Chiefs carelessly breaking him and most of the other players we've loaned you bastards for the past couple of years.

-

Koloamatangi will only be on the bench. I'd say he covers 6 and 7 after Boshier, with Cane the other option at 8.

Rennie has 2 options:

(1) the loose forwards that started vs the Crusaders (Seu, Cane, Sanders)

(2) the loose forwards that started vs the Reds (Sanders, Boshier, Cane)

I'd go with option 1 but that means Retallick and Bird will probably have to play the full 80.
