@voodoo your feedback on TMMM is disappointing. Like you I thoroughly enjoyed Seasons 1-4, intelligent, funny and topical withought being preachy. Have been saving S5 to watch next so shitty to hear its jumped the shark.

To be fair, I jumped in after the wife started so have only seen pieces and just really didn’t like what they were doing. Maybe based on Nepia’s comments I should give it a proper go

Yeah give it a shot, I think it takes time to tune into the change, maybe you wont but may as well try.

Unlike some, I've liked the Ted Lasso change from out and out comedy to dramedy, but I didn't like it when You're the Worst did it and eventually gave up.

I have a love/hate with Ted Lasso atm. I much prefer the lighter episodes, the more dramatic ones I just find depressing - yes, we know everyone has insecurities, you've rammed it home to us.

I am loving Barbara as a new character though!

I'm 3 into it, and is enough for me to keep going, I think I know whats going on (ep 3 showed I am probably right) but guess I'll have to keep watching to find out

    Silo (TV Series 2023– ) ⭐ 8.1 | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

    Silo (TV Series 2023– ) ⭐ 8.1 | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

    49m | TV-MA

I read the book trilogy, which were great.

    The Ipcress File
    (2022)

    • Quite enjoyed it
    • VERY much enjoyed the 1960's-style bras/tight-jerseys on the female lead... the physics-defying horizontal Fujis of joy. Lubbly jubbly.
    • Somebody mentioned they got 1960's London right... and yeah, it was quite well done
    • A lot of the current trend of "period pieces" are doing that sort of thing very well - Endeavour, etc
    • But... at times, it felt like they were just shoe-horning things in there. Throw in a reminder that homosexuality was illegal, for example. I didn't mind that one too much, actually, but can't think of the more jarring ones.

With that in mind - something else I thought of recently, after watching one of the many "1980s" period pieces around the place - think Wonder Woman, Stranger Things, The Americans... and whatever it was I watched last week that made me think of it...
... is this due to the current studio execs being of the generation where they're especially nostalgic for the 80s
... and if so... does that mean the 1990s are coming up? And is that going to be good or bad?

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Lucy Boynton, very nice.

    Hope there's a second season.

I absolutely loved the first 4 seasons of TMMM - devoured it.

Thanks for the tip. Started watching S5 and was really disappointed.

    Will try again from S1.

    Barry.

Done and dusted, but what the fuck. Still the same great characters but just ramped up the bizarre throughout the last season to it's final implosion in the ultimate episode.

Was great fun the first couple of seasons at least.

    Succession - finale
Yeah - pretty good. Very well executed. The final few conversations/arguments about "who's it gonna be?" were slightly tiresome - but I guess it fed into the episode being a perfect little summary of the entire series... with a focus on the Family, rather than external factors.
Yeah. Nicely done, the more I think about it.

    The Great

Satirical/ historical show about Catherine the Great. The writing and cast are excellent, no moreso than Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult.

Which season are you on? I thought S1 was, um, great, but was disappointed with S2 to the point I'm weighing up whether to watch the recently released S3.

@antipodean we are a few eps into the 3rd.

Still enjoyable although more outrageous at times, expect the sometimes in "sometimes true story" gets less and less...

    Transatlantic

Based in Vivian Fry's efforts to get Jews to the USA from France before the US entered the war.

Apart from the educational part that almost all French resistance fighters were black as were the Brit SOE operatives and all the people rescuing Jews were gay or rich liberal Democrats, it was all a bit shit.
